Fellow Buchaneers,
Once again, I am excited to be seeking your support for a Council seat with the Town of Buchans in the upcoming election - October 2, 2025.
It has been a great honour to act in the capacity of your Mayor for the past four years. Guided by strong ethical values and extensive experience in finance and economic / community development, as well as a deep belief in the resiliency of our town and its people, I am confident in my continued ability to lead and serve the Town of Buchans effectively and with passion. As your Mayor, and through thoughtful collaboration with fellow councillors, staff, and the community at large, our town is on a solid path forward.
During my time as Mayor, our Council has achieved many significant milestones, including (but not limited to):

Successfully stabilized and substantially enhanced the previously precarious financial position of the community.

Replaced and enhanced essential equipment such as the loader, backhoe, and pickup truck to better support water and sewer maintenance, garbage collection, and general operations;

Streamlined multiple policies and procedures to enhance administrative and operational efficiency.

Finalized an all-important proposal for an expansion of our Fire Hall, which will be completed in the fall of this year;

Completed a comprehensive overhaul of our emergency plan to offer essential guidance in the event of any type of disaster impacting our community.

Improved infrastructure and greenery in and around the community, including extensive refurbishment of Memorial Park, addition of the viewing platform on Ski Hill (with more to come), upgrades to the T.A. Soper Memorial Stadium (ongoing), as well as numerous trail improvements including interpretive signage for historical sites;

Finalized an asset management report to guide the renewal of our aging water, sewer, and road infrastructure now and into the future;
β
Implemented numerous water system improvements and commissioned a detailed report to guide current and future councils in employee safety, refurbishment, and necessary maintenance activities;

Co-founded an ongoing project to reboot the hydroelectric station adjacent to the community, with a goal to upgrade our water system at the source and create a new stream of revenue for Buchans to support community development initiatives;

Completed the Scott Street water, sewer, and road project.

Rebranded Buchans with a new logo that reflects on our extraordinary past while highlighting our bright future;

Launched a new website and e-newsletter to improve information access and communications with Buchans residents and visitors;
β
Instituted the Telmatik telephone/text alert system to better inform Buchaneers of urgent notifications such as emergencies and water shut offs.

Provided guidance and support for important community events such as Come Home Year 2022, the annual Lucky Strike Festival, and others;

Engaged with the public regarding planning for the Centennial 2027 Celebrations, which is sure to be a grand and historic event for our community!
Great strides have been made in the past four years, but much important work remains. With your continued support and input, I pledge to further build upon this solid track record through sustainable development practices and well-planned governance. As such, I will continue to strive toβ¦
β‘οΈ Prioritize transparency and a collaborative approach to ensure the voices of all residents are heard and valued;
β‘οΈ Enhance the attractiveness of Buchans as a place to live, work, and visit through community development, revitalization, and clean-up, including our public infrastructure and recreational spaces;
β‘οΈ Work with resource development and other companies to ensure Buchans attracts and maximizes the benefits from business, employment, and community support opportunities resulting from regional projects and initiatives.
