June marks National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, achievements, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

As a fire department, we are proud to serve a diverse community and remain committed to building meaningful relationships grounded in respect and understanding.

National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity for us all to learn more about Indigenous histories, perspectives, and cultures, and to reflect on the important role Indigenous Peoples continue to play in shaping our communities. We encourage our community to explore local Indigenous history and participate in educational and cultural events throughout the month. Participate in meaningful opportunities around the city to listen, learn and engage.

Six recruits. Many hours of training. One mission: serving our community.

It’s been a busy few weeks as our newest firefighter recruits took on public education, vehicle rescue, firefighter survival skills, and medical response. These recruits are building the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to answer the call when it matters most.

Every drill, every lesson, and every challenge brings them one step closer to becoming the firefighters our community can depend on.

We’re proud of their hard work and dedication as they continue their journey. 🚒🔥

Burlington Fire has responded to several smoking-related fires in recent weeks. Careless disposal of ci******es and smoking materials can quickly lead to devastating fires, injuries, and loss of property.

🚭Use deep, sturdy ashtrays
🚭Fully extinguish ci******es with water or sand
🚭Keep smoking materials away from anything flammable
🚭Never toss cigarette butts from vehicles or balconies

If you smoke, smoke safely. One careless moment can change lives.

The Fire Prevention Division recently participated in air management and respiratory safety training as part of ongoing professional development. This important training enhances our ability to support fire investigations and improve the identification of the origin, cause, and circumstances of fires. 🔥

This long weekend, Burlington Fire reminds residents to enjoy fireworks safely by attending organized, licensed public displays conducted by trained professionals. These events are the safest way to experience fireworks, helping to reduce the risk of injury, fire, and property damage in our community.

If you still choose to host a family show, be sure to use safety-certified consumer fireworks sold by a trusted source.

Most injuries are caused when people ignore proper safety precautions when handling fireworks. The most common firework-related injuries are to the hands and face. Wear glasses and gloves when handling fireworks to protect yourself.

To prevent injuries:

✨ Light only one firework at a time and never hold a lit firework in your hand.
✨ Attempting to re-light a “dud” or defective firework is dangerous and can result in injury.
✨ After the firework display, keep children away from used fireworks as they still may be active.
✨ Sparklers are popular with kids, but a lit sparkler can reach nearly 650 C (1,200 F).
✨ Place both sparklers and fireworks in a metal bucket of water or sand to cool down.

Noise complaints after 11 p.m. should be directed to the HRPS Non-Emergency Line at 905-825-4777.
