For 30 years, National Indigenous Peoples Day has invited us to pause, learn, and celebrate the rich traditions, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.

We’re proud to highlight the Crawford Lake Fund, established by a BCF fundholder, which helps honour Indigenous history at the Crawford Lake Conservation Area. The fund supports archaeological programs, educational experiences at the 15th‑century Longhouse Village, and dynamic exhibits inside the Deer Clan Longhouse featuring contemporary Indigenous art.

“Quiet generosity often reveals itself in the most unexpected places — in neighbours helping neighbours, in organizations lifting up our community, and in citizens choosing to give so others can thrive. Each year, our Grantees, Fundholders and Friends Celebration reminds us of the extraordinary impact we can create when generosity and purpose come together.” - Megan Tregunno, CEO, Burlington Community Foundation

✨ What a special gathering of community! Last week, BCF held its annual celebration, welcoming charitable partners and the generous fundholders, supporters and volunteers who make our impact possible. 👏

In a full room at Central Library, we celebrated grants made to 35 charities though BCF's annual Community Granting Program and heard stories of meaningful local impact we have been able to support.

Fundholders Ralph and Susan Sgro also shared about charitable initiatives they have supported in honour of their daughter Lindsay, through the Lindsay's Loves Fund. ❤️

The evening featured two special performances by a musician from the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton on the steelpan drum, and was capped off by a moving performance from 30 members of Myriad Ensemble, who will be heading to the World Choir Games in Sweden later this year! 🎶 Arts play a vital role in building community and strengthening well-being and this was felt by these talented artists!

A special thank you to all the charities who joined us as speakers: The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton, Wesley Non Profit, Feed Halton, Centre for Diverse Learners, Community Living Burlington, and Myriad Ensemble.

National ambition, with hyper local impact ✨

This vision is at the heart of community foundations and the inspiration behind over 30 Ontario community foundations coming together for a province-wide gathering last week in Kanata.

Thank you to Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) for hosting and to Toronto Foundation, Waterloo Region Community Foundation, and the London Community Foundation for their leadership in making this inaugural gathering possible. Toronto Foundation's vision for a team bus was the cherry on top! 🚍

Through a collective response to causes, community foundations will continue to inspire sustainable philanthropy and strengthen local communities for generations to come. 🌱
