Congratulation to Alinea Land Corporation and the City of Burlington, Ontario
On June 8, Burlington Council authorized the next step in advancing due diligence for a proposed urban village and event centre district near Aldershot GO.
The vision includes approximately 121 acres, 8,800+ residential units, community recreation facilities, parks, natural heritage protection, commercial and retail space, education and training opportunities, and a proposed regional sport, culture and entertainment district.
At the centre of the proposal is a Burlington Event Centre and recreation campus that could include arena/ice, aquatics, community programming, event space, hospitality opportunities and potential partnerships with organizations such as Oak View Group, the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford, the Ontario Hockey League and Canada Basketball
For Burlington, the potential benefits are significant:
More housing near transit.
New recreation and wellness amenities for west Burlington.
Construction, hospitality, retail and event-related jobs.
Expanded visitor spending for local businesses.
A stronger municipal tax base.
A regional destination connected by GO Transit and major highways.
A complete-community approach that aligns growth with the infrastructure residents need.
“For Burlington’s business community, this is the kind of project that can generate long-term value: housing, jobs, visitor spending, retail activity, hospitality demand, transit activation and new confidence in west Burlington. Moving the process forward is an important step in converting a major strategic site into economic opportunity.”
