Today, on the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we recognize the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

At Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin, reconciliation is an ongoing commitment. Through our Tiny Homes Youth Skilled Trades Program, students built Tiny Homes that are placed in partnership with Indigenous communities, creating safe, sustainable housing while providing young people with meaningful hands-on experience.

These projects are about more than construction.
They're about listening, learning, building relationships, and working together toward stronger communities.

What looks like a few hours of volunteering can create an impact that lasts for months.

As part of Love Week, the incredible team from Elevation Church Mississauga rolled up their sleeves at our Mississauga ReStore to help transform the shopping experience for every customer who walks through our doors.

Together, they reorganized departments, refreshed displays, safely moved heavy inventory, prepared donated items for the sales floor, and carefully sorted fragile donations. Every task helped create a cleaner, more welcoming, and easier-to-shop store.

As our Regional Store Manager, Jay, shared:
"Each job may have seemed small on its own, but together it created a complete store refresh. Better organization helps customers find what they need, discover more along the way, and ultimately helps generate more funding for Habitat's mission."

In fact, after a similar store refresh in the past, ReStore sales nearly doubled over the following three months—a powerful reminder that thoughtful volunteer efforts create lasting community impact.

Every purchase at the ReStore helps Habitat for Humanity bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

To the entire Elevation Church team: thank you for showing what it means to love your neighbour through action. Your generosity is helping more families build brighter futures.

We were honoured to welcome Peter Fonseca MP, Member of Parliament for Mississauga East–Cooksville, to our Mississauga ReStore this week!

During his visit, MP Fonseca met with our incredible 2026 Canada Summer Jobs students—Aliza, Manoah, and Maiesha—who are spending the summer gaining valuable hands-on experience while making a meaningful difference in our community.

Through the Canada Summer Jobs program, these talented young people are developing new skills, supporting our mission, and helping create brighter futures for local families. Their passion, dedication, and hard work are making a real impact every day.

🌟 Please join us in welcoming Ava Sunderland BACK to the Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin team! 🌟

This summer, Ava joins us as our Construction Project Coordinator through the Canada Summer Jobs program—but her Habitat journey began years ago as a Grade 10 student in our Tiny Homes Youth Skilled Trades Program.

What started as a class she took "on a whim" quickly became a passion that shaped her future. Since then, Ava has graduated from Mohawk College's Construction Engineering Technician – Building Renovation program, earned the prestigious Schulich Builders Scholarship, and is now back where it all began—helping complete the very Tiny Homes that inspired her career.

Throughout the summer, Ava will be working alongside our construction team to help prepare Tiny Homes for their next chapter, supporting affordable housing initiatives and First Nations communities.

Her journey is a wonderful example of how investing in youth can create a lasting impact—not only for our communities but also for the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
