Congratulations to all the newly elected and returning local government leaders across BC! From expanding swim programming to setting up Lifejacket Loaner Stations, we look forward to working with you to promote water safety in our communities. Drowning prevention is a shared responsibility. Together, we can raise awareness, encourage residents to adopt safe practices in and around the water, and invest in water safety.

The BC & Yukon Branch office will be closed on Friday, October 16 for our staff retreat. We're excited to build strong relationships with our colleagues in support of our mission to prevent drowning and promote water safety! The office will reopen on Monday, October 19.

We’re always committed to water safety, even in your dreams.

If you’re spending time on, in, or around the water, it’s important to:
🌊 Wear a PFD or lifejacket on any kind of vessel or watercraft.
🌊 Swim in lifeguard-supervised areas.
🌊 Wear bright colours, like pink, orange, red, and yellow, so you can be easily spotted in case of emergency.

For over 15 years, the Lifesaving Society has been running Swim to Survive at Brentwood College. Over 300 students participated this year and learned how to stay safe while attending school by the ocean! The few participants that were unable to pass the program will have the opportunity to take free swimming lessons later this year.

We’re thrilled by the amazing turnout and wish everyone a great, water-safe school year!

Today, September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This observance invites us to reflect on the tragic legacy of residential schools, recognize the resilience of Indigenous communities, and honour the survivors, the children who never came home, and their families and communities.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. We acknowledge that colonial history continues to impact Indigenous communities in BC and Yukon, and we are committed to walking the path of reconciliation together.
