Join Rain Cabana-Boucher, a Michif/British settler interdisciplinary artist, for a talk about her practice with a focus on drawing. Rain's exhibition "Proximities" is displayed at Bob Prittie Metrotown, as part of the Burnaby Art Gallery Offsite Exhibitions, on view until July 6, 2026 on the second floor.

Presented in partnership with the Burnaby Art Gallery in recognition of National Indigenous History Month.

In our book discussions, get to know works by authors who are Black, Indigenous and people of colour.

Over the next four weeks, read "Searching for Serafim: The Life and Legacy of Serafim 'Joe' Fortes" by Ruby Smith Díaz, then meet with others to share thoughts and impressions in a librarian-led discussion.

"Searching for Serafim is a layered exploration of the life of Vancouver's first lifeguard, Serafim "Joe" Fortes. A Trinidad native who arrived on the shores of Canada in 1885, Fortes was heralded as a hero in Vancouver for saving dozens of people from drowning, and his funeral drew the largest crowd ever recorded in the city's history. Since his passing, Fortes has been commemorated with a Canada Post-issued stamp and local buildings named in his honour. Yet, little has been discussed about how he navigated an openly white supremacist society as an Afro Latino man."

Come learn about and test out Procreate® to use on your next creative project!

Procreate® is a digital painting program used to create art, sketches and animation on Apple devices. It can be used by beginners and experts for personal and professional projects.

During this session, get an introduction to the software’s features for creating digital art, and you’ll also get to try it out yourself using a stylus. Staff will be present to demonstrate and answer questions.

Cloud storage allows you to save, manage and access files from any device with an internet connection, saving space on hard drives and providing a way to back up important files.

In this session, learn about the different types of cloud storage, how to save, organize and access documents, photos, and videos and how to share and edit documents with others.

We will provide laptops for you to use, and there will be time to practice and ask questions.

Disability benefits are vastly under-accessed across Canada: only 13% of people with disabilities are receiving benefits.

In this presentation, learn about the three federal financial programs for people with disabilities: the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB). This program will be presented in English and Spanish.
