As wildfires continue to impact communities across the Okanagan, we’re working to help ensure people who have been displaced can access the food and support they need. We’re sending a truckload of food to partners in the Okanagan supporting wildfire evacuees, with food helping individuals and families as they move into temporary accommodations.

If you have been displaced by the wildfires and are temporarily staying in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster or the North Shore, you are welcome to visit one of our locations during operating hours to access food support.

You are not alone. We’re here to help.

If the BC wildfires have displaced you and your loved ones, this message is for you. The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is here to help you by providing fresh food, produce, household toiletries and hygiene products for you and your family - not just once, but for weeks to come. If you are temporarily residing in one of our catchment areas of Vancouver, Burnaby, North Shore or New West, please come and visit us at one of our locations during our hours of operation. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to give us a call. You are not alone in this.

🥔 37,000 people. 615,000 pounds of produce. One seriously impactful day.

Last Saturday’s Ugly Potato Day was a huge celebration of giving good food a second chance—and we had so much fun being part of it!

And of course… it was pretty fun seeing Potato Ty 👋

Thank you to our farmers and volunteers. 🥔

Last year, we had an abundance of food to share, so we partnered with the Regina Food Bank to make sure nothing went to waste. The collaboration was such a success that we did it again this year.

We sent surplus carrots, corn, kale and parsley to Regina, and in return received rolled oats, lentils, soup mix and pasta to share with our clients and agency partners.

It's a simple idea with a big impact: when food banks work together, we can reduce food waste, increase variety, and get more nutritious food into the hands of people who need it most.

A huge thank you to the Regina Food Bank for another successful food swap. We’re proud to work alongside partners who share our commitment to building a stronger, more connected food bank network. 🤝

We’ve been keeping a secret… 👀

Food waste doesn’t have to be inevitable. With no shortage of food, we’re finding new ways to extend the life of fresh ingredients and help more food reach the people who need it.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce our new line of food preservation products.
You may have already spotted them in select retail locations—but now we’re bringing them to the community in a whole new way.

You can find our new vending machine at Patterson SkyTrain Station later this month, where you’ll be able to discover our products and learn how every purchase helps make a difference.

Every dollar supports our food preservation efforts, helping us rescue more nutritious food, reduce waste, and strengthen food security across our community.

Remember, there is no shortage of food. It's a distribution problem.

Thank you ISSofBC for your time helping us here at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank! Your support truly changes lives and we appreciate the time you choose to give to us.

ISSofBC describes their experience at Greater Vancouver Food bank as "Inclusive, empowering, and impactful. Inclusive, because our clients, many of whom face multiple barriers, feel welcomed and valued for who they are. Empowering because they build confidence, practice communication, and apply skills in real settings. Impactful because they are not only supporting the community, but also taking important steps forward in their own journeys."

Your time and efforts make our community a better place. It's always a pleasure having your clients help in the warehouse and we look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership!

Our Telly Awards have officially arrived. Seeing these awards in person is a proud reminder of what can happen when a powerful story is shared.

Feeding the Future was created to showcase how innovation, collaboration, and community are helping transform food banking across British Columbia. From rescuing fresh produce to expanding access to healthy food, this film shines a light on the people and partnerships making it all possible.

The GVFB team hosted 55 organizations at our Vancouver warehouse for this year’s annual Agencies Appreciation BBQ on Tuesday, June 23rd. With over 140 attendees, we brought together representatives from community and provincial partner organizations as well as GVFB staff members, volunteers, and our board! It was a wonderful opportunity to continue building our relationships within the community, locally and beyond. 🌭

The Nicola Valley Food Bank in Merritt were recently seeking help from their network as they faced challenges. We were able to make a trip up to assist them with much needed food support and financial aid to help keep operations running. They serve roughly 1600 clients annually in their community, and will be able to continue this essential support because of our partnership.

Not only are we more than food, we're more than the catchment areas we distribute to! Looking forward to more partnerships within communities as we collaborate to share food locally and beyond.
