๐Ÿ’ง A Little Piece of History: The Holy Well of Mount St. Patrick โ›ช

Tucked away in the historic community of Mount St. Patrick is one of Greater Madawaska's most unique and meaningful landmarks โ€” the Holy Well, also known as the Miraculous Spring. ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ€

The Holy Well was established in 1869 by Father John McCormac, who arrived in Mount St. Patrick in 1867 and played an important role in the growth of the parish and community. That same period saw the construction of the beautiful stone St. Patrick's Church, which still stands in the village today.

The tradition of Holy Wells has deep roots in Ireland, dating back centuries to ancient Celtic beliefs surrounding natural springs and their spiritual significance. Father McCormac brought a piece of that Irish tradition to Mount St. Patrick, blessing a natural spring near Constant Creek as a Holy Well.

Over generations, families from across Renfrew County made the journey to Mount St. Patrick to collect its water, which many believed held special healing and spiritual qualities. For many Irish Catholic families, a visit to the Holy Well became a cherished tradition passed down through generations.

Today, the Holy Well remains a fascinating part of our Township's history โ€” a quiet reminder of the Irish heritage, faith, traditions, and stories that helped shape the community of Mount St. Patrick. โœจ

Have you ever visited the Holy Well? ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ€

๐Ÿ’ก DID YOU KNOW? | Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) โค๏ธโšก

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a life-saving device designed to help someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, every second counts. An AED can analyze the person's heart rhythm and, if needed, deliver a shock to help restore a normal heartbeat while emergency responders are on their way.

The good news? You don't need to be a medical professional to use one.

๐ŸŸข AEDs are designed for everyone.
The device provides clear, step-by-step voice instructions, guiding you through the entire process. It will even determine whether a shock is neededโ€”so you can't accidentally use it incorrectly.

โค๏ธ If someone collapses and is unresponsive:

๐Ÿ“ž Call 911 immediately.
๐Ÿซ€ Begin CPR if you're able.
โšก Send someone to retrieve the nearest AED.
๐ŸŽค Follow the AED's voice prompts until emergency responders arrive.

Using an AED as quickly as possible can significantly improve a person's chance of survival.

๐Ÿ’’Did you know the Township of Greater Madawaska has several publicly accessible AEDs located throughout the municipality?
