Canada Energy Regulator

Canada Energy Regulator The Canada Energy Regulator (CER) is Canada’s national energy regulator and this is an official Government of Canada page.

French: https://www.facebook.com/REC.CER/ The CER regulates pipelines, power lines, energy development and trade in the Canadian public interest. Canada’s energy landscape is constantly evolving, defined by the ever growing interest from the public in this country’s energy system. As Canada’s federal energy regulator, the CER knows it has a vital role to play in this system – protecting what matte

rs most: lands, water, environment, jobs, communities, safety, and well-being. Regulating with excellence or “regulatory excellence” drives what the CER does and how it does it. From the day to day activities to new initiatives, the CER consistently strives to set the bar a little bit higher - because Canadians deserve a credible regulator they can rely on. One that provides assurance it will always take the steps necessary to protect them and the environment; one that provides neutral fact based energy information; one that provides multiple platforms for meaningful engagement. Adding Facebook to the CER’s social media toolkit provides another avenue for us to reach out. We welcome your input, ideas and conversations, and look forward to engaging with you online.

Read our Warning Letter to Michels Canada after a pipeline was damaged near Pink Mountain, BC: https://ow.ly/Sm1u50Z4oi9

Michels Canada is a construction contractor hired by Westcoast Energy. The contracted crew was installing a 24-inch-diameter pipeline under two active Westcoast pipelines. During this work, the crew struck one of these natural gas pipelines prompting an evacuation of workers in the area. The pipeline has since been repaired and returned to service.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported and no public evacuation was required. This warning letter shares our serious concerns around this incident. We expect companies and their contractors to work safely near pipelines and ensure they are following all our regulations.
