Ruby's Bee Suite

Ruby's Bee Suite Nichol Piniak, Beehive Architect; a blend of science and design build, not for the faint of heart.

I am of European decent, from a family who immigrated after WW2. They brought with them many skills and a past life, farming land within Germany. I have Autism and developed strengths in the areas of construction, art, and science; I also possess unique connections to animals. I eventually blended science and construction to focus, supporting the recovery of bees, I understand honeybee behavior at

an advanced level and enjoy them very much. I choose to use my skills, experimenting with ways to protect bees and like organisms from the damages of a changing climate. I believe without this study, humankind will loose many species that we rely on for food diversity. This could potentially cause a lot of suffering for humans and animals alike. In the recent past I have added an interest in genetics, with the goal of examining bees residing in humid and protected areas. Looking at bees from regions such as the Isle of Bermuda, can aid science to understand how genetics is impacting the Varro Mite pandemic. It is my immediate goal to have bees tested and use these findings to compliment my current work.

Dark bees are a phenomenon that exists in Alberta but are discredited by the commercial minded community do to lack of documentation. Darker bees can be a sign of longevity, not necessarily age, and here’s why.

Strychnine is a highly toxic and previously banned substance in Canada. Not only does it cause excruciating pain to the intended target, it goes on to cause secondary poisoning in wildlife. Strychnine in trace amounts becomes part of the soil biome, eventually reaching the flowers of growing plants and crops. Our honeybees, the ones we all rely on for crop pollination, then consume this nectar which can cause mortality for entire colonies.
Saskatchewan politicians have decided to allow agricultural to use this highly toxic poison to fight gophers, at the expense of us, wildlife, and the pollinators that tend our food.

I hope you feel motivated to send them an email.

The government will not choose people, ecology, or environmental protection over money. It will be up to some to fight, and others to understand the deception. If not, your children will loose their futures.

on honeybees as they try to adapt.

This heavily researched and detailed blog lays out the myriad of ways climate change is impacting pollinators.

Honeybees have never been fully reliant on humans. They free feed, mate mainly in the wild, and are capable of self regulation when they locate a compatible cavity. In dry regions like alberta, there are periodic reports of what I like to call ‘Super Hives’. These are indeed wild bees, and they are amazing. I believe wild bees hold answers that will eventually show people how to properly coexist.

If you know of any older bee nests in the Alberta area, please let me know. It can become part of research that helps all humans understand how to preserve honeybees for agricultural pollination.

People adhere to the authority, and that's okay. But always remember the facts and hard work that goes into debunking what is accepted as truth. People refuse to acknowledge what is known about the problems for many reasons... Money, reputation, or simply because they are feeding a relationship they cannot bare to part with. Age and wisdom always help us in the end, I hope you enjoy the article.

Honey bees are still in decline across the U.S. entomology professor Adam Dolezal describes the many factors affecting honey bee, native bee health.

Collapse of Honey Bee Colonies Over the past decade, managed bee colonies have suffered sharp declines in Europe and the US. This decline is now also being observed in China and Japan, and there are first signs of African collapses in Egypt as well, according to a report from the United Natio...

Found an interesting article this morning.

In 2007 a single Asian honeybee swarm appeared in North Queensland. There are now more than 10,000 colonies. Dr Ros Gloag has found surprising adaptability despite low genetic diversity, which could be a good sign for species facing population collapse.
