This is a big win for Alberta!!

We’re speeding up 41 school projects – 16 in Calgary, 11 in Edmonton and 14 more provincewide – so students can get new and improved schools sooner. These projects will create more than 39,000 new and upgraded student spaces across Alberta.

The Schools Now program is investing $8.6 billion in school buildings. By 2031-32, it will add about 200,000 new and updated student spaces across the province.

Fact check time.

Older data centres required massive amounts of water and took large amounts of electricity from the grid. What Alberta is building is the complete opposite.

Meta's Sturgeon Data Centre will use a closed-loop, liquid-cooled system with dry cooling that requires no operational water use for cooling. In fact, it will use less water than an average Alberta golf course.

The data centre campus will be developed under Alberta’s “bring your own power” approach. Rather than relying solely on Alberta’s electricity grid, the project will combine grid-connected electricity with generation from a new $4.6 billion private-sector funded on-site natural gas power plant, helping protect grid reliability. This will benefit electricity customers across the province by reducing transmission costs by up to six per cent on Albertans’ utility bills.

💧 Water smart: The facility will use dry cooling technology, requiring very little water. In fact, the average Alberta golf course uses more water.

⚡️ New Power Plant: Meta is building new electricity generation to support the facility, improving our grid, and bringing down electricity bills for families

👷🏽‍♂️ Jobs for Albertans: 3,000 workers will help build the facility, with 300 permanent jobs once it is complete.

🚙 Building local infrastructure: Meta is investing approximately $60 million will be invested into roads, water systems, and other local infrastructure upgrades.

💰 A historic investment: Meta is investing $13 billion to build this data centre, one of the largest private sector investments in Canadian history, generating more than $250 million annually in benefits for Albertans, including through royalties, taxes, levies, and fees.

Yahoo! The Calgary Stampede has officially kicked off yesterday, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world. Thank you to Premier Danielle Smith for this great video celebrating "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth."
Stampede is 10 days that brings our whole city together, whether it's the chuckwagons, the midway, a pancake breakfast, or just pulling out your boots and hat.
