A useful resource for those following Caylan Ford’s trial and the broader conversation around media accountability and cancel culture.

The website "Cancel Culture on Trial", created by Caylan Ford’s father, has been posting detailed day-by-day objective updates from the proceedings and sharing commentary on the evidence being presented.

The blog makes the case that CBC ignored serious warning signs about the credibility of key sources used in its reporting, proceeded with damaging allegations against Caylan Ford, and used sensational language that escalated the story even further.

It also argues that CBC failed to properly report Caylan’s side of the story, even after more information became available, including public interviews, written statements, and details that raised questions about the motivations and credibility of those making allegations.

Many of you may remember that Caylan Ford ran as the UCP candidate for Calgary-Mountainview back in 2019.

Caylan launched a $7.65 million lawsuit over allegations made during the election and is suing several organizations, including the CBC, the Toronto Star, and the NDP.

For many, this case represents a major moment in recognizing how “virtue signalling” and “cancel culture” can spiral, where statements are taken out of context, and lives are ruined. Holding our media outlets and public figures accountable is important, but when “virtue signalling” and “cancel culture” is disguised as accountability and is misused and abused (especially for the sake of winning elections), it can have serious consequences for our society and for our democratic processes.
