Bethany is a faith-based provider of seniors’ services and affordable housing in communities in central and southern Alberta. We provide a variety of housing and care options, ranging from independent living to supportive living, continuing care, specialized dementia care and community services. Our residents benefit from holistic care of the mind, body and spirit and we believe in supporting indi

viduals through varying stages of life. Our priority is seniors, but we also serve persons with disabilities and have limited affordable housing available to low-income families. At Bethany, we believe that seniors should have the freedom to enjoy their lives and are dedicated to excellence in care delivery for all of our residents.

Congratulations to this year's honouree, Jann, Health Care Aide at Bethany Didsbury.

Jann is known for his calm, gentle approach and unwavering commitment to residents living on a secured dementia unit. A dedicated advocate for the unit, he is skilled at recognizing when residents may be anxious or overwhelmed and responds in ways that preserve their dignity while helping them feel safe and supported.

Whether kneeling to speak with residents at eye level, taking time to truly listen, or bringing colleagues together to create meaningful celebrations, Jann builds a culture of trust, respect, and belonging.

✨ Service Excellence Awards Spotlight ✨

The Excellence in Continuous Improvement Award recognizes an individual who has introduced ideas or approaches that improve the resident or tenant experience through innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to better care.

Congratulations to this year's honouree, Randy, Health Care Aide at Bethany Calgary.

Recognizing that many residents living with dementia experienced increased agitation during personal care, Randy introduced a personalized comfort approach based on each resident's life history, preferences, and routines. By sharing these insights with the care team and modelling dementia-friendly communication techniques, he helped create more consistent, person-centred care.

His initiative has reduced distress during care, improved communication between staff, and helped residents feel calmer while preserving their dignity. Families have also expressed appreciation for the way staff understand their loved ones as individuals.

Thank you, Randy. Through your innovation, leadership, and commitment to continuous improvement, you have made a meaningful difference for residents, families, and your colleagues.

✨ Service Excellence Awards Spotlight ✨

The New Employee Mentor Award recognizes an individual who makes a positive difference in the onboarding experience for new employees at Bethany. With so many new employees joining Bethany over the past year, this award is particularly meaningful.

Congratulations to this year's honouree, Arriane, Registered Nurse at Bethany Calgary.

Arriane creates an environment where new employees feel welcomed, valued, and supported. Leading with empathy and compassion, she creates a respectful space where employees feel safe asking questions, learning their roles, and building confidence in their abilities.

She consistently takes the time to check in with new employees, offer guidance, and support colleagues who may be feeling overwhelmed. In challenging situations, she remains calm and encouraging, helping others feel supported.

Arriane also models compassionate care in her interactions with residents, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. Through her actions, new employees see firsthand what person-centred care looks like in practice.

🐾 Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Monty!

Meet Monty, an eight-month-old puppy whose gentle nature and loving personality have quickly made him a favourite among residents and employees at Bethany Sylvan Lake.

Monty's story began thanks to Jasmine, one of Bethany's Recreation Assistants, who fosters dogs through Saving Grace. When Bethany Volunteer Coordinator Kristie and her family agreed to puppy-sit him for a weekend, they never imagined how much little Monty would change their lives. What was meant to be temporary quickly became forever.

Now, Monty shares that same calm and caring spirit with Bethany residents. Whether he's offering gentle puppy kisses, patiently sitting for treats, or simply spending time with someone who needs it. Kristie says "watching the smiles he brings to residents is something truly special."

Animal visits like Monty's play an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing and reducing feelings of loneliness. We're grateful to Monty and Kristie for the joy and connection they bring to the Bethany community 💙

Rina is known for taking action when challenges arise, whether coordinating discussions to improve care practices or helping employees navigate day-to-day issues. She consistently goes above and beyond to support residents and colleagues across the site, not just within her own team.
