Bethany is a provider of seniors’ services and affordable housing in communities across Southern Alberta. We create caring communities.

Bethany is a faith-based provider of seniors’ services and affordable housing in communities in central and southern Alberta. We provide a variety of housing and care options, ranging from independent living to supportive living, continuing care, specialized dementia care and community services. Our residents benefit from holistic care of the mind, body and spirit and we believe in supporting individuals through varying stages of life. Our priority is seniors, but we also serve persons with disabilities and have limited affordable housing available to low-income families. At Bethany, we believe that seniors should have the freedom to enjoy their lives and are dedicated to excellence in care delivery for all of our residents.

National Seniors Day is an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions of older adults and the many ways they continue to enrich and shape our communities.

It's also a time to reflect on the importance of ensuring older Canadians have access to the care, support and opportunities they need to age with dignity, safety and independence.

Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

On September 24, residents at Bethany Riverview had the opportunity to learn from Reverend Tony Snow, a First Nations member of Treaty 7, who shared teachings on First Nations history and performed a smudge with residents.

The gathering offered an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect together as we continue to deepen our understanding of the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools and the importance of reconciliation.

At Bethany, we recognize that reconciliation requires continued learning, reflection and action. We honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

The future of care is bright in our community!

On September 16, we came together at Bethany Riverview to celebrate 13 outstanding students as our 2026 Bethany Scholarship and Award recipients.

Selected from an impressive 114 applications, this year’s recipients are pursuing education in nursing, medicine, neuroscience, therapeutic recreation, health care aide and more. While their paths may be different, they share a commitment to learning, caring for others and making a difference in their communities.

This year, two Founders Bursary Awards, the Nurses Collective Scholarship and 10 Bethany scholarships were presented, representing over $28,000 in support made possible through the generosity of Bethany Care Foundation donors.

Thank you to Burgundy Asset Management, Febéli Boutique, two anonymous donors and members of our broader community for investing in the next generation of caring professionals.

And a special thank you to photographer Neil Zeller, who generously donated his time and photography to capture this year’s celebration.

We’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of the new Central Courtyard at Bethany CollegeSide, made possible through the generosity of our donors!

This beautiful new space is a wonderful example of what can happen when our community comes together with a shared vision. The Central Courtyard gives residents another place to gather with friends and family, enjoy fresh air, participate in activities, or simply sit outside and enjoy the day. More than a new outdoor space, it’s an opportunity for connection, community and creating meaningful memories together.

What a joy it was to come together to celebrate the grand opening of the Martin Family Legacy Garden — Canada’s first dementia-inclusive park!

The park is located right next door to Bethany Riverview, our purpose-built care centre supporting people living with complex dementia, making this new space especially meaningful for our residents, families and care providers.

From looping pathways and continuous handrails to clear wayfinding and sensory elements, the garden has been thoughtfully designed to meet people where they are at, supporting independence, choice and different levels of assistance.

Bethany is proud to have helped bring the park to life as the pathways and programming sponsor, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to and supported this project.

Congratulations to Parks Foundation Calgary on this incredible addition to our community! It was wonderful to see our residents enjoying the park, and we look forward to the many moments of connection it will create for years to come.

✨ Service Excellence Awards Spotlight ✨

The Excellence in Family and Community Engagement Award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond to strengthen connections with families, partners, and the communities we serve, helping improve the resident or tenant experience.

Congratulations to this year’s honouree, Sandy, Receptionist/Clerk at Bethany Airdrie.

Sandy consistently creates opportunities for residents and families to feel involved, heard, and connected. At the front desk, she takes time to speak with families, listen to their concerns, and welcome their feedback and ideas. She also works closely with recreation staff and encourages residents to get involved in decorating and event planning, helping them feel valued and included.

Her creativity can be seen throughout the community. Sandy often contributes her own time to make the site feel festive and welcoming, including creating a woodland-themed Christmas display that transformed the space for residents, families, and staff to enjoy.

Thank you, Sandy. Through your warmth, creativity, and dedication, you help create an environment where residents and families feel at home.

A new partnership has brought a beautiful addition to Bethany Riverview. 🎨

Through a first-of-its-kind partnership between Bethany Riverview Volunteer Services and Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts), third-year student Arryn Coman completed a Work Integrated Learning internship at Bethany. As part of the internship, Arryn created a hand-painted mural for residents at Bethany Riverview, one of our care centres purpose-built to support people living with complex dementia.

Working collaboratively with our employees, Arryn designed a peaceful woodland scene featuring trees, flowers, and woodland animals. The mural was thoughtfully designed as a sensory tool to support positive emotions, emotional regulation, and meaningful engagement for residents.

This partnership brought together art, education, and care while creating something residents can continue to enjoy within their home.

We're proud to build partnerships with organizations whose values align with our commitment to care, dignity, and aging well.

Our partnership with Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) brings together education, applied research, and care to strengthen the future of continuing care.

Students across multiple health disciplines gain hands-on experience within Bethany communities, building skills and confidence while contributing directly to resident experience and quality of life.

Through Applied Research at RDP, students and faculty work alongside Bethany teams to co-design, test, and prototype solutions that respond to real-world needs. At Bethany CollegeSide, this includes developing assistive technologies that support daily living and well-being.

The Service Excellence Award – Relationships & Respect recognizes an individual who leads by building trusting, engaging, and nurturing relationships in the work environment. Through their actions, they make a positive difference in the lives of residents, tenants, families, and colleagues.

Congratulations to this year's honouree, Jann, Health Care Aide at Bethany Didsbury.

Jann is known for his calm, gentle approach and unwavering commitment to residents living on a secured dementia unit. A dedicated advocate for the unit, he is skilled at recognizing when residents may be anxious or overwhelmed and responds in ways that preserve their dignity while helping them feel safe and supported.

Whether kneeling to speak with residents at eye level, taking time to truly listen, or bringing colleagues together to create meaningful celebrations, Jann builds a culture of trust, respect, and belonging.
