PR No. 20-2026
“Post shows strong support for Filipino Restaurants during FRMC 2026”

Calgary, AB, April 2026 - The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary reaffirmed its strong support for Filipino culinary entrepreneurship and community engagement in Alberta and Saskatchewan through its promotion of the 5th Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC), held in celebration of Filipino Food Month (FFM).

Throughout April, Calgary PCG personnel visited participating restaurants across Alberta and Saskatchewan, underscoring the increasing presence of Filipino cuisine in Western Canada and demonstrating Post’s continuing support for Filipino-owned enterprises and community initiatives.

During her visit to Edmonton from 18 to 19 April 2026, Consul General Emma Sarne visited participating restaurants Cebuchon and BBQ, Zycayah Roll, and Chowkeni, where she met restaurant owners and chefs supporting the promotion of Filipino food and culture in Canada. She also met with FRMC sponsors Jollibee and Seafood City and expressed her appreciation for their continued partnership in advancing Filipino culinary initiatives.

On the sidelines of the visit, Consul General Sarne engaged members of the Filipino business community, including Matteo’s Kitchen, Gathr. Cafe & Lounge, and Valerio’s Tropical Bakeshop, which recently opened its first Alberta branch. During the engagement, the Consul General welcomed the continued growth of Filipino-owned culinary enterprises in the province and expressed support for Valerio’s future expansion into Calgary, further broadening access to pan de sal and other well-loved Filipino baked goods.

Meanwhile, during Post’s Consular Outreach Mission to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from 24 to 26 April 2026, the team visited participating restaurants Al’s Kitchen and Katmu Filipino Cuisine & More. Reflecting the strong local support and growing appreciation for Filipino cuisine in the province, Katmu restaurant owners James and Thesa Villanueva opened their second branch in Saskatoon, the grand opening of which was attended by Consul General Sarne, Saskatoon West MP Brad Redekopp, Mr. Ken Ziegler - CEO of GPC Capital Corporation, Prof. Debbie Pushor of the University of Saskatchewan, and loyal patrons from the Filipino community.

In Calgary, officers and staff of Post likewise visited participating restaurants in support of FRMC 2026, bringing friends and colleagues from the Consular Corps of Calgary and city officials to experience Philippine culinary heritage and hospitality.

Alongside the celebration of FFM and the promotion of the 5th FRMC, Post also showcased fresh Philippine mangoes sourced from Zambales and Batangas, highlighting one of the country’s most globally recognized agricultural products. Consul General Sarne underscored the world-class quality and global competitiveness of Philippine mangoes and expressed optimism for their eventual entry into the Canadian market. “This would further expand the presence of Philippine food products in Canada,” she said.

The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary commends all participating restaurants, sponsors, and partners for contributing to the successful celebration of the 5th Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada and for helping showcase the richness, diversity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Filipino cuisine and culture. END

📄 First time magpa‑notarize sa Consulate? Watch this quick walkthrough so you know exactly what to expect.

📌 REMINDERS:
❗For Canadian public documents to be legally recognized in the Philippines, they must have an Apostille certificate, which verifies the document's authenticity for Philippine use. Examples include birth and marriage certificates, academic records, and corporate documents like Certificate of Employments.

❗The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary does not issue Apostille Certificates.

➡️ In Alberta, Apostilles are issued by the Ministry of Justice – Official Documents and Appointments Office (Edmonton).
➡️ In Saskatchewan, they are issued by the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General – Authentication Services Office.

These offices attach Apostilles to provincial public documents issued in Alberta or Saskatchewan. Once a document has an Apostille, it is automatically valid in the Philippines and no longer requires PCG authentication.
