Good day Cambridge Bay,

As many residents may be aware, the Canadian Armed Forces will be conducting Operation NANOOK in and around Cambridge Bay February 14 to March 13, 2026.

Joint Task Force NUNALIVUT will establish a temporary Headquarters at the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) and will utilize many facilities in the Community during the Operation.

Cambridge Bay residents may notice a limited increase in noise (including gunshots, artillery, vehicles, equipment etc.) and increased ground activity in and around the areas during the operation. Residents can also expect an increase in air traffic (including CC-130 Hercules, CC-138 Twin Otter, and CH-147F Chinook aircraft). The Canadian Armed Forces are coordinating closely with local authorities to ensure public safety throughout the operation.
