Open-Air Burn Permits Reinstated

The Cambridge Fire Department advises residents that the temporary suspension of Open-Air Burn Permits has been lifted, effective immediately.

Recent weather conditions have reduced the fire risk that led to the precautionary suspension, allowing residents to once again apply for and use Open Air Burn Permits in accordance with City of Cambridge By-law 313-86 and all permit conditions.

While open-air burning is now permitted, safety remains a priority.

Residents are reminded to:
✅ Obtain a valid Open-Air Burn Permit before burning
✅ Ensure fires are attended at all times by a responsible adult
✅ Monitor weather conditions, including wind speed and direction
✅ Keep a water source or extinguishing equipment nearby
✅ Fully extinguish fires before leaving the area

Please remember that burning is prohibited when conditions prevent the safe dispersal of smoke or when it creates a nuisance for neighbours or a hazard for motorists. Only approved materials may be burned. Prohibited materials such as plastics, rubber, petroleum products, and other excessively smoky materials are not permitted.

For permit information and application details, visit www.cambridge.ca

Poor air quality continues to affect programs and services in Cambridge. To help protect residents and staff, the City has suspended all open-air burn permits and implemented temporary service adjustments.

The Fire Department will continue to monitor weather conditions and fire risk levels. The suspension will remain in effect until air quality improves and it is safe to resume open-air burning activities.
