During the months of April & May, Waterville & District Volunteer Firefighters responded to 17 calls each month, this includes incidents within our district and mutual aid.

So far this year, members have responded to 71 dispatched calls.

Thank you to all those who respond at a moments notice and also to the families who support our volunteers from home, to ensure they are there for our community when needed.

Yesterday evening, WDFD firefighters got some hands on time with our new to us, live fire system!

This unique training tool provides the opportunity for our firefighters to train in a live environment, while focusing on different techniques, teamwork, accountability and other aspects that surround their roles.

These opportunities wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community and the funds from the Nova Scotia Firefighters 50-50!

Our flags are flying at half mast in honour of our fallen comrades from Abercrombie Fire, Eureka Fire, Bridgetown Fire, Kentville Fire, Havelock Fire & Italy Cross/Middlewood & District Fire.

The fire service is an extremely tight community, our thoughts and prayers are with these stations and families who have lost loved ones.

Thankfully the weather cooperated enough for our firefighters to familiarize themselves in basic vehicle extrication this evening.

Captain, Gilbert Penner, along with fellow officers, led the group in practicing skills such as stabilizing the vehicle, performing a dash lift, pedal cutting and removing a patient from a vehicle.

These skills are so important to practice, ensuring we are ready to serve our community when needed.
