National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. For generations, many First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities have celebrated their cultures, languages, and traditions at this time of year. The summer solstice holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples, marking a time of renewal, connection, and celebration. Please swipe through this post to learn about a few events happening in Waterloo Region this weekend.

We would also encourage you to respectfully seek information and teaching directly from Indigenous organizations in our community. Crow Shield Lodge, Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre, and Anishnabeg Outreach are some great places to start.

🔅 With the arrival of Neighbourhood Day events at Kinbridge, we know summer is officially here! 🔅

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Neighbourhood Day at Greenway Chaplin Community Centre with us on Tuesday. We dodged the rain and served food to an incredible 260 neighbours! It was great to see so many families, youth, and seniors from the community come out to grab some dinner, wander the vendor stalls, and enjoy the evening's activities.

A special thanks goes out to all the vendors, volunteers, community partners, and staff who made the night the success it was.

When it's written on a cake, you know it's true, volunteers truly are the heart of Kinbridge.

Last night our staff team had the pleasure of celebrating the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to Kinbridge and our programs. With over 5,000 hours of volunteer time logged in 2025, we wouldn't be the same without them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night with a special thanks to Sharon and Jackie who supported us in the kitchen. Your willingness to step in on a day that was all about you is a direct reflection of the heart of volunteers.

Congratulations, once again, to our award winners as well. It is the dedication of volunteers like you who truly set the Kinbridge community apart.

At Kinbridge, we believe youth voices matter and that strong communities are built through connection, understanding, and belonging.
As conversations continue across our community this Pride Month, we wanted to take a moment to reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where children, youth, and families feel safe, respected, heard, and valued.

From all of us at Kinbridge, Happy Pride! To us, Pride is a commitment to inclusion, safety, and community. We work to ensure our spaces are safe and welcoming for staff, participants, and everyone who walks through our doors.

The colours of the Pride flag have many different interpretations, just like there are many ways to celebrate Pride. We hope this video introduces you to some new ideas of what the colours represent.

This month and always, we celebrate love, resilience, and belonging. 💛🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
