Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Behind every life lost to overdose is a person who mattered.

A family member. A friend. A neighbour. A coworker. Someone loved, remembered, and deeply missed.

Today, we remember those we have lost. We stand alongside the people who carry that loss with them. And we recognize those in our communities who continue to struggle, survive, support others, and work every day to save lives.

Overdose affects people from every walk of life, including here on the North Island. Compassion matters. Connection matters. And stigma has no place in the conversation.

May we continue building communities where people are met with dignity instead of judgment, where asking for help is met with support, and where every person knows their life has value.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember without stigma, and we stand together with compassion.
