In suburban Buenos Aires, thirty unemployed auto-parts workers walk into their idle factory, roll out sleeping mats and refuse to leave. All they want is to re-start the silent machines. But this simple act - the take - has the power to turn the globalization debate on its head. Armed only with slingshots and an abiding faith in shop-floor democracy, the workers face off against the bosses, bankers and a whole system that sees their beloved factories as nothing more than scrap metal for sale.

With The Take, director Avi Lewis and writer Naomi Klein champion a radical economic manifesto for the 21st century.

This event is being held in honour of International Workers' Day, in collaboration with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), BC Nurses Union (BCNU), and qathet Teachers' Association (qTA).

What do you think of the economic update? And what about Avi’s proposals to actually tackle the cost of living crisis?

Please join us for Honouring Stephen Lewis. Through this link you can watch his memorial live online on April 26 at 11 a.m. (Eastern Time) / 6 p.m. (East Africa Time), from Toronto, Canada: theslf.org/Honouring-Stephen-Lewis-Memorial-Livestream

Stephen believed in the power of collective action and in the profound impact of standing together in solidarity. This gathering will be an opportunity to honour his extraordinary life, reflect on the lives he touched, and reaffirm the shared purpose that continues to guide us.

The video will go live when the memorial begins. If you are not able to join us live, a recording will be made available as soon as we are able.
