Our police service is aware of social media posts circulating that involve students from a local high school and contain content that may be considered inappropriate, harmful, and in some cases, potentially harassment or bullying.

We take matters involving the safety and well-being of youth very seriously. We are actively working in partnership with the school division, administration, and staff to review the situation and ensure it is addressed appropriately.

At this time, we encourage students, parents, and community members to refrain from sharing or amplifying the content, as doing so may contribute to further harm. We also remind everyone that online behaviour can have real-world consequences, both socially and legally.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with their children about responsible online conduct and respectful communication.

If anyone has information that may assist, or if a student feels they are being targeted or unsafe, we encourage them to reach out to school staff or contact police.

We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we work together to promote a safe, respectful environment for all students.

The Camrose Police Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of John Corbett as the next Chief of Police, effective July 15, 2026.

John was born and raised in Camrose and has proudly called the community home for more than 40 years. With over 23 years of dedicated service with the Camrose Police Service, his experience encompasses operational leadership, strategic planning, and change management, strengthened by strong partnerships at the local, provincial, and national levels.

Commission Chair Lee Katchur shared:

“John’s experience, leadership, and unwavering commitment to community safety make him the ideal choice to lead the Camrose Police Service into the future. He has earned the respect of both his colleagues and the community, and his integrity and collaborative approach will serve Camrose well.”

In accepting the role, Chief-designate Corbett said:

“Camrose is an incredible community, and I feel truly fortunate to serve a city that is so supportive of its police service. We are lucky to have engaged residents, a committed Council and Police Commission, and an outstanding group of sworn and civilian members who serve with compassion, professionalism, and dedication. I am honoured to support their success, champion their work, and ensure they have the leadership and tools they need to thrive.”

The hiring process was initiated following the January 21, 2026 Commission meeting after Chief Dean LaGrange announced his intention to retire. Chief LaGrange will complete seven years as Chief of Police on July 15, 2026, which will also be his final day with the Camrose Police Service.

The Commission extends its sincere gratitude to Chief LaGrange for his dedicated leadership, commitment to community safety, and steadfast support during this transition. He leaves the Service in a strong position and has played an important role in advancing the organization throughout his tenure. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the Camrose Police Service and the community it serves.

Please join us in congratulating Chief-designate Corbett and thanking Chief LaGrange for his service 👏

At 2:29 A.M on Sunday May 24, 2026, officers clocked a truck travelling west on 48 Avenue & 56 Street at 113 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop, and the driver was showing signs of impairment. The 20-year-old driver blew a ‘Caution’ on a mandatory alcohol screening test. We want to remind residents that speeding can have severe consequences including injury or death. High speeds and alcohol reduce reaction time and increase the severity of collisions. Please slow down and drive responsibly.

Sharing the roadways

In support of the Alberta Traffic Safety May initiative: Motorcycle Safety, Camrose Police Service reminds all motorists to use extra caution when travelling on or around motorcycles.

In 2025 in Alberta, there was a significant increase in motorcycle collisions resulting in fatalities.

In an effort to reduce collisions policing agencies will be focusing on enforcement of traffic laws specifically related to motorcycle safety.

Camrose Police Service shares the following information on rider and motorist responsibility and other safety tips.

Riders must wear DOT-approved helmets.
The penalty for not wearing a helmet is a $162 fine.

Other motorists are reminded to be vigilant of increased number of motorcycles now sharing the roadways.

Safety tips for riders include:
- keep headlights on at all times,
- wear high visibility and protective clothing,
- perform pre-ride checks,
- use reflective tape on rims,
- learn how to operate a motorcycle safely and properly,
- position yourself where you are noticeable by other road users,
- be aware of road hazards and accommodate for weather conditions,
- maintain a safe lane position and safe following distance,
- never drive while impaired and,
- abide all traffic laws.

Safety tips for other motorists include:
- take extra time at intersections to check for motorcycles,
- check blindspots twice,
- be aware that motorcycles can easily weave in and out of traffic and may suddenly change lanes.

Camrose Police Service joins policing agencies across the nation in championing National Police Week, May 10-16.

In support of 2026 National Police Week theme: Committed to Serve together, members of Camrose Police Service continue to provide the highest level of service in working with the community to ensure Camrose is a safe community for everyone, whether living, working or visiting.

The following message from the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police strongly reflects the mindset of Camrose Police Service.

“The community wants and expects the police to keep them safe. To residents, we are the police. They do not differentiate between patches or names, but simply want one thing – for us to keep them safe and well. Police services across the country are joined in achieving this goal – we are committed to serve in communities across the country. Collectively, within our agencies, and with other police services, first responders, social and community organizations, we achieve this 24/7/365. Our teams are committed to working together towards a stronger, safer, brighter future for all.”
