We are open all weekend from 10 am to 5 pm and would love to see you out here.

THIS SATURDAY AT NATURE CLUB | CE SAMEDI AU CLUB NATURE

Our young naturalists are meeting this Saturday at Cape Jourimain!

This week’s lens: Founding Gathering: Journals + learning to notice

This week, we’re diving into nature journaling! Join us as we craft our own journals and slow down to notice the beauty in the world around us.

We’ll gather together before heading outdoors to explore Cape Jourimain through this week’s lens. Along the way, children will be encouraged to slow down, ask questions, notice what they might usually walk past, and learn from one another.

We’ll wrap up our adventure with time to record observations, drawings, questions, and discoveries in our Nature Club journals.

What do you notice that others might miss?

Cape Jourimain’s Nature Club is looking for community members who would like to help children ages 5–12 experience the natural world through different ways of seeing.

Maybe you’re a birder who recognizes who’s calling before you ever see the bird, or someone who knows trees simply by their bark. Maybe fungi fascinate you, or you understand tides, wetlands, plants, weather, gardening, fishing, migration, and wildlife.

You might also carry Mi’kmaq, Acadian, Black New Brunswicker, newcomer, or other cultural and community knowledge that can help children understand the histories, stories, and relationships held by these lands and waters.

We would love to connect with:
Birders, arborists, foresters, and tree enthusiasts

Mycology, fungi, pollinator, and insect enthusiasts

Plant, coastal, wetland, and land-based knowledge holders

Fishers, harvesters, gardeners, and seed keepers

Local historians, storytellers, and artists

Indigenous, Acadian, and Black New Brunswick knowledge holders

Climate and environmental educators

…and anyone with knowledge we haven’t thought to name yet.

What does participating look like?

You might join us for a single themed Saturday gathering to share a bit of what you know before exploring Cape Jourimain alongside the children. You don’t need to prepare a formal lesson, and you don’t need to be a teacher, our team will support the facilitation. Bring a story, a skill, a question, an object, or simply your way of noticing to help our young naturalists look at their surroundings through a fresh lens.

We are also welcoming youth and adult volunteers who would like to join us more regularly, learn alongside the group, and help support our weekly sessions.

Ages: 5–12

When: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Where: Cape Jourimain Nature Centre

Quick event update for anyone who saw the note in our latest newsletter.

Our fundraiser BBQ with the Rotary Club of Port Elgin won’t be happening this Saturday due to a scheduling conflict. We’re working on rescheduling it for a later date and will share the new time here once it’s locked in.

The trails and centre are still open all weekend if you’re looking to get outside for a walk.

If you’d like to get upcoming event notices and trail updates straight to your inbox, you can sign up for our monthly newsletter with the link in our bio!

Nature Club is coming to Cape Jourimain!
We’re excited to welcome children ages 5–12 for a free, youth-led Nature Club where we’ll slow down, get curious, explore, and learn to see the natural world through many different lenses.

Throughout the season, we hope to be joined by community knowledge holders such as birders, arborists, plant and fungi enthusiasts, naturalists, historians, land-based knowledge holders, and others, who will help us notice something new about the lands, waters, wildlife, histories, and relationships around us.
Our first gathering is Saturday, August 29, from 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

We’ll begin by making our own Nature Club journals, learning how to observe and record what we discover, and taking our first exploration together at Cape Jourimain.

Future gatherings will follow a simple rhythm:

•Gather + discover our theme or meet our guest

•Head outside to explore

•Observe Cape Jourimain through a new lens

•Draw, write, wonder, and record what we notice

•Come back together to share what we discovered

Nature Club is youth-led, adult-supported, and community-powered. Families may drop children off for the session, with adult facilitation and volunteers supporting the group throughout our time together.

Ages: 5–12

When: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Where: Cape Jourimain Nature Centre

Cost: FREE

Space is limited for our first season. Registration collects the information we need to safely support each child, including emergency contacts, accessibility/support needs, authorized pick-up information, and parent/guardian permissions.

Register here: https://forms.gle/Y8XPjF5QLbLz1tS66 or click the link in our bio

Please dress for outdoor exploration and changing weather, bring a water bottle, and come ready to notice something you may have walked past a hundred times before.
