Good morning CP!

Our community is invited to a public discussion on homelessness and public safety this coming Monday at 6pm. Members of Lanark County Social Services, the OPP and Lanark County Mental will take part in a panel discussion. They will also answer questions from the public to assist in forming a better understanding of roles and responsibilities, policies and rights, as well as the state of homelessness in the province.

This is meant to be an evening of education and open respectful discussion. We hope to see you there.

OrgCode Consulting Inc. President and CEO Iain De Jong will provide an interactive virtual presentation followed by an in-person panel discussion with local service providers. This is a great opportunity to learn about homelessness in our communities, the challenges and limitations, and services provided.

I have been honoured to serve as a Carleton Place Town Councillor for the past four years, an experience that has strengthened my understanding of municipal government and the responsibility that comes with representing our community.

Before being elected, I served as Chair of the Downtown Carleton Place BIA, working closely with local businesses, residents and the Town during a particularly challenging period. Professionally, I bring more than 35 years of experience in advertising, marketing, media and business, where I learned the importance of communication, collaboration, strategic planning and responsible decision-making.

My first term on Council has provided invaluable experience with municipal budgets, infrastructure, planning and development, recreation, environmental stewardship and the challenges associated with managing a rapidly growing community.

Perhaps most importantly, I have learned that effective municipal government requires teamwork. Council members will not always agree, but respectful debate, listening to residents, asking difficult questions and working collaboratively with Council and Town staff produce better decisions.

I believe my combination of business experience, community involvement and four years of municipal government experience has prepared me well to continue serving Carleton Place.

My commitment remains simple: listen, be prepared, work collaboratively and always put the long-term interests of our community first.

We are planning a new recreation facility, and we need YOU to help shape it.

A message from Mayor Randall to the residents of Carleton Place regarding the incident last week.

Good afternoon,

People have requested that I make a statement regarding the incident that took place the end of last week from the Mayor’s chair. As there is an ongoing criminal investigation taking place, I am not able to comment on it. The police have a job to do and I am going to continue to let them do that.

What I will say is that I know people are frustrated. I have spoken to people that are frightened, that are angry and upset. I have spent the better part of the last two days speaking to various agencies, conveying those sentiments through hours of phone calls. It saddens me that this incident has happened and it concerns me that people are worried that it might happen again.

It is with that in mind that I have requested that a public forum on homelessness and community safety be held to provide residents with an opportunity to attend and speak with these organizations that can help.

I will provide more details about this public forum when I have them. I encourage people to reach out to me or any member of council should you wish to share your feelings and further the discussion.
