This past Saturday our Project Lifesaver division met for a Electronic Search Specialist course. Two members completed the course, led by our own ESS instructors. Following the testing in the morning, they spent the afternoon in Killbear Provincial Park running through some mock exercises locating Project Lifesaver clients. A team deployed in our rescue vehicle until they picked up a signal. Then headed out on foot to pin point the location. Great work from the members out there!

Huge thanks to our friends at Killbear Provincial Park for having us out! A great park to enjoy the beautiful area!

Our Project Lifesaver division will be training in Killbear Provincial Park tomorrow afternoon. Our Electronic Search Specialists (ESS) are practicing with our equipment around the various campgrounds. Although Squad 1, our response vehicle, may be seen throughout the park there is no active incident or concern for the public. There is no impact to campers using and enjoying the park.

Yesterday some of our team were invited on board the Cambrian, a Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA) vessel out of Parry Sound, to observe a marine search and rescue exercise. Multiple marine and air assets from the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and the Royal Canadian Air Force (424 Squadron from CFB Trenton) worked together through a scenario involving missing hunters in the Arctic region.

Many thanks to the CCG and CCGA for having us out to watch how they operate. This was a great chance for our members to see other types of communication and handling of SAR operations

Yesterday our members completed their May training session out at Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre. Teams learned about Lost Person Behaviour and different traits exhibited by different lost subject profiles.

The second portion brought us outside for a GPS navigation exercise. Members hiked to a series of coordinates and completed tasks at each point. The day was finished off by a grid search exercise tracking members routes and plotting them on our mapping programs. Another great training complete!

Many thanks to GNOAC for use of the facility!

Our Mule litter is one of our newer pieces of equipment. This is a single wheeled system designed to carry a basket where a patient/subject can lay or be packaged for transport out of an area deemed less accessible. This can accommodate our existing SKED systems and can be adjusted to suit the terrain or amount of members.

We purchased to Mule litter to enhance the safety of our team members and the subjects while carrying. This can also be used to carry gear out when teams deploy.

Our Electronic Search Specialists from our Project Lifesaver Division are pictured here tracking a signal and relaying that to search teams. Once a strong signal is found, the member can take a bearing and provide that to others teams in an effort to pin point the subject’s position.

Last Friday, we partnered with Georgian Bay Biosphere - GBB to share some techniques for navigating and mitigating issues that may come up while out on their field work. They ran through basic compass use, taking and using a bearing, and finished off with a challenge of starting a fire to boil water.

We are very happy to have partnered with their organization to deliver joint training beneficial to our members. We are grateful to partner with local community organizations to share what we love about the outdoors
