The Carlyle Public Library would like to thank and celebrate Brenda Daku for 15 years of service to the library & the community. Brenda has made a huge impact on my life and I feel lucky to have her on the team.

Bring a dessert to share as we celebrate Brenda Daku, librarian. (Some of her favourites: angel food cake with lemon curd, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, tiramisu)

Orange Shirt Day: September 30th, 2026.

These are a small glimpse of the Indigenous books in the Carlyle Public Library’s collection. MANY of the library’s friends have contributed $$ to help us continue to add Indigenous books. Thank you!

Let us continue to not only support Indigenous authors and lift their voices … but also, educate ourselves so we can be safer, kinder humans.

September was a busy & challenging month, bursting at the seams with beauty!

A lot of veggies have been donated to the library. Librarian Naomi changed vegetables into muffins, cakes & soups for the library kids.

Mmmmmm. So much flavour! Especially when basil is added.

More books

Even more books! What is this? A library??!?!?

So many patrons have commented, “my mom grew those!” I love old-fashioned flowers.

35 for paint hour.

The chaos is real.

We made fabulous monsters out of empty toilet paper rolls.

As we approach September 30th and sit with Truth & Reconciliation, please know: you have the power to change your community for good.

Three library friends donated the eggs, zucchini, flour, blueberries, sugar, etc. that went into the making of these cakes and muffins. I made all of this for my library kids. (Someone also donated beets, which I transformed into 2+ gallons of borscht for library programming.)

Atrocities occurred. We need to hold space for the terrible things perpetuated against the Indigenous peoples. And … we are also capable of containing multitudes: there are kids in our community who deserve safe, inclusive spaces and good food. Part of Truth & Reconciliation is holding space for the past so we can look forward and move with intention.

The people who donated food to the library: thank you. You are literally changing the shape of our community for good.
