The Summer Reading Club is all about encouraging kids to read over the summer 📚but it ends up being so much more than that.

This summer’s theme was Colour Your Summer 🌈. Each week, we explored a different colour of the rainbow, with our outfits, crafts 🎨, and games all matching the theme of the week!

We're also so proud to share that we reached our reading goal of 1,250 books across all the groups! 🎉📖 Way to go, readers!

A huge thank you to all our local sponsors 🙌your support helped us provide a fun and free 7-week camp for these amazing kids.

Our end-of-summer party took place last Friday (August 15th), and what an amazing way to wrap up such an awesome summer! We had a tie-dye station, beaded bracelet-making, and even a SLIP N’ SLIDE!

After all that fun, everyone enjoyed a quick snack, including delicious donated cookies from Kootenay Market, plus chips, juice, and water from Safeway and No Frills.

Once the kids were happily sugared up, we recognized our top readers of the summer with their well-earned prizes. We also drew names for six lucky SRC prize winners and one door prize for the parents.

Despite the overcast weather, the turnout was fantastic! Our kids didn’t let the clouds stop them from showing up to celebrate!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and to all who donated. You helped make this one of our best parties yet!

WEEK SEVEN: Ultra Violet 💜 - Art and history!

We wrapped up the last week of the Summer Reading Club with so much fun! 🎉🎨 This week’s theme was art & history, so we got creative with decorations and turned the library grounds into a giant canvas with amazing chalk art 🖼️🌈. Such a colorful way to end an awesome summer! ☀️📚

Yoga has serious benefits for everyone and anyone but especially when it comes to kids learning should be fun!! The Om Work Guru (trained by Kidding Around Yoga) offers children (and their parents) an opportunity to learn about relaxation and mindfulness while keeping them engaged with games, stories, and music.

Join the Om Work Guru at the Castlegar Library on August 8th at 1PM for a fun mindful moment!

Ocean Blue – Week 5! 🌊🐳🐠

We had two amazing special guest visits:💃 Miss Ayla, from Peak Performance Dance Co, who wowed us with her incredible tap dancing and got the campers moving to the beat! 🐾 SPCA, came by twice with tons of animal care knowledge and games! For our crafts, we explored the sea with sparkling CD jellyfish, colorful water snakes, and cute axolotl keychains. 🎨🐙

It was a busy, creative, and unforgettable week under the sea!

Week 4: GROWING GREEN🌱🌸🌿🍃🌳

Wow, what an exciting week! We crafted beaded axolotl buddies and created some incredible bookmarks! A huge shoutout to our awesome special guests who joined the fun this week! Stacey and Kia from COINS brought their vibrant culture and stories to our morning groups with lively drum circles, a peaceful smudging ceremony, and super cool crafts! 🧡 Author Rhonda Kirby of “Katie’s Restaurant” stopped by to read her story and led us in making some tasty pizza crafts! 🍕 Plus, we got our first visit from the camp counsellors at SPCA! 🐾

🌟 Week 3: Yellow Brick Road! 🌟 What an adventurous week it's been! We were thrilled to welcome our special guest, Tara from WildSafe BC🐻🦌, who joined us each morning to teach us all about wildlife safety — so cool and informative! 🧠🌲

In the afternoons, we stepped into fantasy worlds 🌈✨. We created mystical creatures 🐉🦄, crafted colorful Perler bead masterpieces 🎨🧮, and brought our imaginations to life with paint pen artwork! 🖌️🧚‍♀️
