This unique immersive experience links Orwell Corner Historic Village's authentic late-Victorian charms to Montgomery’s life. Experience hands-on historic activities with our costumed guide:

Follow Montgomery’s footsteps by taking a wagon ride along a route that she travelled in 1910!

$60.00 per person. Admission to Orwell Corner Historic Village included! The program runs 1:00 - 3:30 PM.

This program is intended for adult audiences, but children over 7 are allowed with supervision. Groups welcome. Costumes also welcome but not required!

Cancellations are allowed up to 24 hours before the scheduled event.

115 years ago today, Lucy Maud Montgomery and Ewan Macdonald were married at Aunt Annie and Uncle John's home in Park Corner (now known as The Anne of Green Gables Museum)

June 8, 1911

My wedding dress was of white-silk crepe de soie with tunic of chiffon and pearl bead trimming - and of course the tulle veil and orange blossom wreath.

July 5th, 1911

The morning was cool and gray, threatening rain. But it did not rain and in the evening it cleared up beautifully. 🌄

I wore my white dress and veil, and Ewan's present-a necklace of amethyst and pearls. 💍

My bouquet was of white roses and lilies of the valley💐

At twelve Uncle John took me down, while Stella and the Howatts sang "The Voice that Breathed over Eden."🎵

In a few minutes the ceremony was over and they were calling me "Mrs. Macdonald." 💫

Today marks one year since we lost Jennie MacNeill.💙

Yesterday, these pages from a 1950 newspaper were shared with us. It seemed only fitting to share them today.💚

Long before so many of us came to know Jennie as one of the dedicated caretakers of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish Home, she was the young Cavendish schoolteacher featured in this article—then known as Jennie Moore—so proudly holding a copy of Anne of Green Gables.

None of those reading this newspaper in 1950 could have ever imagined the role she would one day play in preserving this special place.💚

Alongside her husband, John, Jennie devoted decades to protecting the site of Maud's beloved home. Through their vision, the original stone foundation, the land, the well, and that beautiful old apple tree were preserved so that visitors from around the world could stand where Maud once lived and walked, and experience the peace she loved so much.

Jennie welcomed visitors with kindness, she shared her knowledge generously, and inspired countless people with her love for this place.💙

Today we remember Jennie with thankfulness—for her kindness, her passion that shone in those blue eyes, her dedication, and the lasting legacy she leaves at the Site of L.M. Montgomery's Cavendish Home.

Thank you, Jennie. You are so deeply missed.💙

🪻What if I told you one of the world's most beloved novels began its journey from this old kitchen and this very desk on display at the site of her Cavendish home?

🌧It was a moist, showery, sweet-scented evening in June 1904/1905.

🧎‍♀️"I was sitting on the end of the table, in the old kitchen, my feet on the sofa, beside the west window, because I wanted to get the last gleams of daylight on my portfolio."🌅

It was here, in this old kitchen, that L.M. Montgomery wrote the opening paragraph of Anne of Green Gables.📖🖋

🪑From this desk in the post office of her Cavendish home, Maud mailed the manuscript to publishers.

It came back.

She tried again.

It came back.

Five publishers rejected Anne.

🎁Discouraged, Maud tucked the manuscript away in a hatbox for several months.

Then, one winter day, while rummaging, she came upon the manuscript and decided to try just one more time.💌

She mailed it...again... from this desk.

📜This time...it was accepted.

In 1908, Anne of Green Gables was published, and the rest is literary history.📖
