It is with great sadness, we mourn the loss of one of our Harbour Authority members. Alvin was a kind and caring man that contributed a great deal to the Harbour Authority and to the community as a whole. He will certainly be missed. We send our condolences to his family at this time.

The scientists at Fisheries and Oceans Canada want to know what you see in the sea this summer!

“Tell Jack” is a fun campaign where you can become a citizen scientist and help gather valuable data about seals, whales, and leatherback turtles to aid DFO scientists in their work.

If you spot a marine mammal or turtle off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, email [email protected] or tweet with or . Add information about what animal(s) you saw... where they are, when you spotted them, and what they are doing. All the information will be passed directly along to scientists studying these marine animals!

Fun Fact: ‘Jack’ is actually a DFO research scientist, Dr. Jack Lawson who has dedicated his career to marine mammal & sea turtle research!

USED FISHING GEAR COLLECTION DAY - PORT AUX BASQUES REGION

Hey Southwest Coast friends we are heading your way next to collected any end-of-life fishing gear. Have any old traps, nets, ropes, or pots laying around? If it stored along the shoreline it is at risk of washing into the ocean and causing great harm to marine life as "ghost gear". Lets dispose of all used fishing gear responsibly.

Drop off your used fishing gear between 10am - 4pm, Tuesday, November 28th and we will have it all sent for recycling. You will find us across from the floating wharves.

This work is supported by The Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation - CCFI and Fishing Gear Coalition of Atlantic Canada.
