The Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Community Enhancement Program is now accepting applications from residents and community groups whose projects foster diversity, equity and inclusion across PEI.

Among the 2026 funding recipients was the Boys and Girls Club of Summerside, which received support for its Stick Together Festival.

Applications can be submitted by email to [email protected] until 4 pm on September 23, 2026.

Be aware of scams targeting seniors using government programs.

Be cautious of anyone calling or texting you unprompted with offers of cheques or money.

Some signs of a scam are:
❌the person makes an urgent request with a deadline
❌the person requests your personal or confidential information over the phone
❌the communication is unsolicited and includes a claim to be government or bank officials

If you are unsure if a caller is legitimate:

❌do not give your banking information
❌hang up
❌call the government department directly for assistance

The province is launching a new five-year Seniors Action Plan to help support the province's older adults through targeted, coordinated and measurable actions.

The Seniors Action Plan 2026-2031 focuses on three overarching pillars:
➡Promoting positive perceptions of aging;
➡Enhancing well-being and healthy aging; and
➡Strengthening services and collaboration across sectors.

Do you know a senior who deserves recognition for their outstanding contributions in volunteering and community involvement, fundraising, fitness and recreation, or education and research?

Applications are now open for the 2026 Senior Islander of the Year Awards.

➡️A current resident of Prince Edward Island
➡️65 years of age or older
➡️Currently making a difference in their community
➡️Willing to be nominated

Nominations are open until August 25 and will be reviewed by members of the PEI Seniors' Secretariat.
