Keeping kids safe starts with all of us. Help protect Island students by following the law around school busses and school zones.
If you witness a vehicle passing a school bus illegally, note the plate number, vehicle and driver description, time and place, and call 9-1-1
Talk to your kids about bus stop safety: arrive early, look both ways, and stay visible to the bus driver.

Be aware of scams targeting seniors using government programs.

Be cautious of anyone calling or texting you unprompted with offers of cheques or money.

Some signs of a scam are:
❌the person makes an urgent request with a deadline
❌the person requests your personal or confidential information over the phone
❌the communication is unsolicited and includes a claim to be government or bank officials

If you are unsure if a caller is legitimate:

❌do not give your banking information
❌hang up
❌call the government department directly for assistance

Over the last five years, the Restorative Justice Program has received over 200 referrals, allowing victims a safe space to share how crime has impacted their lives and a chance to speak with the person who caused harm.

Restorative Justice puts people and relationships at the center of its practice and gives Islanders more options and pathways to heal. It’s justice that listens, not just punishes. It’s programming that contributes to community wellbeing by helping offenders truly understand the impact of their actions. It’s accountability that changes behavior.
