As a young woman, Diane Pitre was inspired by her Veteran uncles to serve in the military. She joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1977, but her career was cut short when she was dismissed at just 19 years old. She was told that her sexual orientation made her "a disgrace to the uniform."

Those words stayed with her for many years.

Today, Diane helps other Veterans heal and find a sense of belonging through her work with Rainbow Veterans of Canada. She also helped create the Rainbow Veterans' Heraldic Badge, which received approval from His Majesty King Charles to feature the Royal Crown, a meaningful symbol of recognition for the 2SLGBTQI+ Veteran community, which she now wears proudly on her uniform.

In recognition of her decades of advocacy for LGBT Purge survivors and 2SLGBTQI+ Veterans, Diane was named a Member of the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest civilian honours.

Diane's story is one of courage, resilience, and service beyond the uniform.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of enrolling five new sailors into the Royal Canadian Navy!
Two of these members will soon begin their journey through the Naval Experience Program https://forces.ca/en/naval-experience-program/, while three will start their careers as Naval Reserve sailors right here at HMCS Queen Charlotte.
We are excited to welcome S1 Benjamin, NCdt Rayner, S3 Bansal, S3 Tutton, and S3 Mutch to the team as they begin their naval careers and take the first step toward new challenges, opportunities, and adventures.

Hier, nous avons eu le privilège d’accueillir cinq nouveaux marins au sein de la Marine royale canadienne !
Deux d’entre eux entameront bientôt leur parcours dans le cadre du Programme d’expérience navale, tandis que trois autres débuteront leur carrière en tant que marins de la Réserve navale ici même, au HMCS Queen Charlotte.
Nous sommes ravis d’accueillir le S1 Benjamin, le NCdt Rayner, le S3 Bansal, le S3 Tutton et le S3 Mutch au sein de notre équipe alors qu’ils entament leur carrière navale et font leurs premiers pas vers de nouveaux défis, de nouvelles opportunités et de nouvelles aventures.

Our members were proud to lend a hand in restoring the lookouts at Andrews Pond!

What began as vandalism damage turned into a great example of community teamwork and partnership. Members of HMCS Queen Charlotte were happy to work alongside the City of Charlottetown, PE Parks and Recreation Department and the Charlottetown Area Watershed Association over several days to help repair this well-loved community space.

This project is a great reminder of what can be achieved when organizations come together to support and strengthen our community. Well done to everyone involved!

Nos membres étaient fiers de donner un coup de main pour la remise en état des belvédères d’Andrews Pond !

Ce qui n’était au départ que des dégâts causés par des actes de vandalisme s’est transformé en un formidable exemple de travail d’équipe et de partenariat communautaire. Les membres de la Réserve de la Marine royale canadienne ont été ravis de collaborer pendant plusieurs jours avec le service des parcs et loisirs de la ville de Charlottetown et l’Association du bassin versant de Charlottetown afin d’aider à la remise en état de cet espace communautaire très apprécié.

Ce projet nous rappelle à quel point on peut accomplir de grandes choses lorsque des organisations s’unissent pour soutenir et renforcer notre communauté. Bravo à toutes les personnes qui ont participé !
