Hello Everyone,

Given the handling of the recent half-price membership promotion we did with The City of Charlottetown. I have decided not to partner with them for future promotions. I will honour all memberships purchased during Waste Reduction Week at the discounted price, so members who got the deal do not worry about any additional costs.

I have been clear from the beginning that my ultimate goal is to make the Tool Library a free service. However, over the years, it has been work to keep the doors open, with times where the expenses have come out of my own pocket.

Next year, the Tool Library will launch pricing for large organisations to purchase memberships for all their users. The hope is that this program will broaden the tool library's reach while helping cover operational costs.

Since 2017, I have operated the world's smallest tool library, with only 100 sq ft. For the past years, I have been planning and designing a new sustainable Tool Library that would expand our storage and offer a small workshop space while being off the grid. There are still many details to sort out for this project, but I plan to show some concepts in spring 2026.

I want to end with a thank you to the City of Charlottetown for all the past support it has provided to keep the doors open, put on events, acquire new tools and grow the Tool Library from an idea to what it is today. This parting will not affect our participation in future Fix-It Fairs/ Repair Cafes. The Charlottetown Tool Library always hopes to provide islanders with affordable, sustainable options to reduce waste, grow, build, repair, and learn.

Hello everyone,

It has been a rough year. As you may or may not know our founder Daniel Cousins has often picked up the slack in funding to cover the rent of the CTL. In February they had a health scare and have been dealing with the fallout from that it has put them in a financial strain and left them unable to cover the Tool Library's costs. We have fallen behind on the rent and need to sure up our account. We know that times are tough for everyone and costs have been rising for everything. As Daniel has said many times the ideal goal of the Tool Library is that it be a free service. Right now we are uncertain of our future and thank anyone who has supported us in the past and can support us at this time.
