Important drinking-water notice
The Town of Charlottetown has received new drinking-water results from the Province. Two tap samples connected to the Middle Pond water system were slightly above the Canadian guideline for lead. The Public Water Dispensing Unit sample did not exceed the guideline.
The Middle Pond system remains under a non-consumption advisory. Residents must continue using water from the Public Water Dispensing Unit or another approved source for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, preparing infant formula and washing food that will be eaten without further cooking.
Boiling water does not remove lead. Household filters should not be relied upon unless they are specifically certified for lead reduction and are properly maintained.
The Town is requesting additional testing and technical assistance from the Province to determine whether the lead is originating from the source water, municipal infrastructure, service connections or individual building plumbing. The Town is also requesting that last year’s road-topping material and runoff be considered as part of the investigation.

Public Water Dispensing Unit users are reminded to transport and store drinking water in clean, food-grade containers. Health Canada advises reducing exposure to lead as much as possible and notes that children, infants and fetuses are especially vulnerable.
