Public Schools Branch Trustee By Election – Zone 1

Charlottetown – Friday, January 20, 2026

Elections PEI launched the by election process for Zone 1 of the Public Schools Branch on January 12, 2026, opening the Candidate Nomination period, which closed today at 2:00 p.m.

Following the close of nominations, only one candidate - Andrew Avery of O’Leary -officially registered to fill the vacant trustee position.

Elections PEI CEO, Tim Garrity, explained that “with only one candidate registering before the deadline to fill the one vacancy, there will be no by election, and Mr. Avery will now fill this vacancy through acclamation.”

Elections PEI to administer Public Schools Branch Trustees Zone 1 By-Election

Charlottetown, PE, January 12, 2026.
Elections PEI is administering the School Board Trustees elections for the Public Schools Branch (PSB) to fill a vacated seat in Zone 1 with results displayed by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026 at www.electionspei.ca.

Key Dates
• Mail-in Ballot Applications: Opens Monday, January 12, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. until Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
• Candidate Nominations: Potential candidates can obtain nomination papers at www.electionspei.ca. Completed nomination papers must be filed with Elections PEI by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Voting Information
• Mail-in Ballot: A mail-in ballot is the only option available for voting for eligible residents in the PSB electoral Zone 1 area. This is determined by your civic address as per the Education Act Election Regulations.
