This past Saturday and Sunday, IEMS joined first responders from across the Maritimes and Ontario for another memorable ride across Prince Edward Island. Despite the rain on Sunday, the weekend was a great success as we came together to honor our fallen first responders and support the Atlantic 911 Ride, a cause that continues to make a difference in our communities.

This annual two-day, fully police-escorted motorcycle ride raises funds to support the families of fallen first responders, place public defibrillators in their memory, and assist children who have been victims of violent crimes.

Thank you to everyone who rode, volunteered, and supported this year's event. Rain or shine, it's always about remembering those who came before us and giving back to our communities.

We look forward to continuing the tradition next year as the ride heads to Saint John, New Brunswick.

This weekend, we're proud to welcome back to PEI the Atlantic 911 Ride.

We will have maritime police departments and all three maritime paramedic services joining us, EHS NS, Ambulance New Brunswick, Island EMS Paramedics, and IEMS Fleet Support, as we come together to honour the fallen and thank the dedicated first responders who help keep our communities safe every day.

The ride will travel west on Saturday and east on Sunday, departing both mornings at 8:30 a.m. from the Rodd Royalty Motel on Capital Drive in Charlottetown.

We look forward to seeing everyone as we ride in remembrance, honour, and support of our first responder community.

Tuesday and Wednesday, Island EMS, Mobile Mental Health, and Mobile Integrated Health, alongside the Paramedic Association of PEI, had the privilege of attending the Trillium Health Partners Insight Health Solutions and Wounded Warriors Canada First Responders’ Mental Health Conference in Charlottetown.

It was a meaningful opportunity to come together, learn, and share knowledge on research, training, clinical interventions, organizational supports, and individual and family-based care.

Wounded Warriors Canada plays an important role in our communities, supporting veterans, first responders, trauma-exposed professionals, and their families through mental health services, trauma recovery programs, and career assistance.

We’re grateful to be part of these conversations and to bring this knowledge and these resources back to our teams!

As Paramedic Services Week comes to an end, we’d like to once again thank our paramedics for the diligence, skills, and commitment you bring to those who rely on you.

You support one another, care for the people you serve, and continue to show up with professionalism and heart in every situation.

Thank you for the difference you make in our communities, not just this week, but throughout the entire year. 💚

This Paramedic Services Week, we're adding a new addition to the IEMS family.

Meet Freddy the Fox, also known as "Little Nitro".

Our new teddies are full of personality and represent the same strength and compassion that Nitro brings to everything we do.

Nitro was helping out at our new Fleet Centre last week when he received the first shipment of “Little Nitro's” and he was pretty excited to see them arrive!

These friends will continue to play an important role in helping comfort sick and injured children, and anyone else who may need a little extra support during an emergency.

After witnessing a mock emergency scene in Grade 12, Courtney Crowell knew immediately that EMS was the career she wanted to pursue.

She began her journey in 2014 as a Primary Care Paramedic, spending nine years working alongside incredible Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) partners. Starting as a casual paramedic, she later moved into a full-time role in Montague.

“I learned so much from them.” she says. “When I got to the point of knowing what a patient needed but being unable to do it myself, I knew I was ready to go back to school.”

In 2023, Courtney returned to Holland College to become an ACP.

“I am honestly most proud of getting my ACP certificate. I had been out of ‘student mode’ for almost 10 years. It was a tough year, and I owe a lot of it to my friends and family who helped me through.”

Now based in Charlottetown, Courtney works on the DART/CPRU single-response units. She also continues to educate future paramedics by returning regularly to Holland College, where she helps facilitate labs, teach scenarios and hands-on skills, and has precepted many students on the trucks.

Thank you, Courtney, and all paramedics, for everything you do for your patients, your colleagues, and your communities.

Island EMS is fortunate to have dedicated and passionate paramedics who push themselves to be the best they can be for the communities they serve.

They show up every day with care, compassion, patience, and professionalism; not just during the big moments, but in the quiet ones too.

No matter what the day brings, our paramedics lead with strength, empathy and commitment in everything they do. They are constantly learning, growing, and supporting each other so they can provide the best care possible when it matters the most.

Paramedic Services Week gives us an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our team, but our appreciation for them goes far beyond this week. Thank you to each and every paramedic for the work that they do, the support that they give, and the difference they make in the lives of so many people.

Every day, paramedics and nurses work side by side to support our communities through emergencies, difficult moments, and recovery. We see firsthand the impact nurses have not only on patients, but the entire healthcare system around them.

From busy departments to patient handovers and continued care, your role shapes the experience and outcomes of so many people every single day.

Thank you for everything that you do.
