🔥 Campfires this weekend? Know the difference.

In Chatham-Kent, campfires in a non-approved burning device (fire pits, fire rings, etc.) require a Recreational Campfire Permit. Small controlled fires contained inside an Approved Burning Device do NOT require a permit.

✅ Approved Burning Device:
• Made from pottery, metal, or masonry
• Firebox is no larger than 60 cm (24”) in diameter
• Equipped with an enclosed hearth with a 6 mm (¼”) mesh screen covering the top (or enclosed on all sides with a 6 mm/¼” mesh screen covering the top)

Only burn clean, dry wood, charcoal, or briquettes and keep fires controlled.

Firefighters from Chatham Fire Station #2 were pleased to visit Ursuline College Chatham - UCC to spend time with students and share insight into a career in the fire service.

During the visit, firefighters met with small groups of students, answering interview‑style questions and talking about:
🔥 What inspired them to become firefighters
🔥 Training and career pathways
🔥 Daily responsibilities on the job
🔥 The challenges and rewards of serving the community

With 23 students participating, the small‑group format allowed for meaningful conversations and gave students the opportunity to hear firsthand experiences from firefighters. Students recorded responses as part of a learning activity focused on careers, communication, and community service.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with students and help inspire interest in public safety and community involvement.

After yesterday, we can confidently say the only thing that rivals a McHappy Day kitchen is a major fire scene. The noise, pace, pressure, and nonstop action were incredible!

Thanks for including us in this special day McDonald's Canada
