Today, on Thanksgiving, and every day, we're grateful for the people who help keep our communities safe and healthy. To our whole team, thank you for the care, compassion, and dedication you bring to those we serve.

We also want to give a special thank you to those working today. Whether answering the call, providing care, coordinating resources, or supporting patients, we are thankful for all that you do.

🚨ATTN: Due to a significant motor vehicle accident, our Emergency Departments are currently experiencing high patient volumes. Wait times will be longer than usual.
Critically ill patients will remain the priority. Patients attending the Emergency Department at CKHA for non-emergency ailments should expect longer wait times than usual.

Please seek care for non-emergency needs in community settings where possible, such as your family physician or local walk-in medical clinic to help alleviate the strain on our Emergency Departments.

In Chatham-Kent, there are several options for walk-in clinic services. Click here for more information: https://www.chatham-kent.ca/livingck/livinginck/healthandwellness/Pages/Walk-in-Clinics.aspx

We thank our patients and families for their patience during this time.

On Sunday, October 4th, 3 of our paramedics laced up their runners and represented CKEMS at the Run for the Frontline held in Sarnia.

The Run for the Frontline is a timed 5K and 10K event that honours and supports first responders and frontline workers in our community. This includes anyone who dedicates their time to helping others, such as police officers, firefighters, paramedics, correctional officers, CBSA personnel, dispatchers, military members and veterans, social workers, child and youth care practitioners, nurses, physicians, tow truck operators, child protection workers, personal support workers, and many others. Proceeds from this year's run will support Boots on the Ground, a peer support group for first responders.

Congratulations to Jeannie Baxter and Kristen Ramsdale on completing their first 5K, and to Natasha Boucher-Banks on completing her first 10K! Thank you for representing CKEMS in the Run for the Frontline!

On Thursday night, we joined the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs in celebrating paramedics across Ontario, including a few of our own, both past and present.

Tiina Kaldma, Belinda Keith, Sarah Parr, and Michael Parr received their Exemplary Service Medals. These medals are awarded to those who have dedicated at least 20 years of service to providing exemplary care, supporting their communities, and making a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Congratulations Tiina, Belinda, Sarah, and Michael on this well-deserved recognition. We're proud to work alongside you and thankful for all that you do to support your patients, colleagues, and communities.

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the survivors, and their families and communities. We recognize the ongoing impacts of this history on Indigenous Peoples and take time to reflect on the importance of healing, understanding, and reconciliation.

Wearing orange epaulettes during the month of September is one way Chatham-Kent EMS demonstrates our commitment to honouring this reflection and standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities. As healthcare providers, we know that trust, respect, and compassion are at the heart of the care we provide. We are committed to treating every person with dignity, while continuing to learn, listen, and strengthen the relationships that help ensure equitable care for all.

Today and every day, we remain committed to listening, learning, and doing our part to help build a future rooted in understanding and reconciliation.

The start of a new school year is here, and students across our community are heading back to the classroom, reconnecting with friends, and meeting their teachers.

The return to school means busier roads, school zones, and crosswalks throughout our neighbourhoods.

With that in mind, we want to remind everyone to obey reduced speed limits in school zones, watch for students crossing unexpectedly, and use extra caution around school buses. Parents can help by reminding children to stay back from the curb until the bus has come to a complete stop and to always be aware of their surroundings.

By slowing down and taking a little extra care, we can all help students get to and from school safely.

All of us here at Chatham-Kent EMS are wishing students, teachers, school staff, and families a safe, successful, and rewarding school year ahead!

On this International Paramedics Day, we are reminded of the bond that connects paramedics across communities, provinces, and our country.

Yesterday, when a tragedy struck our colleagues in Prince Edward Island, the entire paramedicine community came together in an outpour of compassion, strength, and empathy. The same compassion, strength, and empathy that paramedics bring to everything they do.

Emergencies don’t take a day off, and through extraordinary challenges, paramedics to serve their communities with professionalism, care, and an unwavering commitment.

To every paramedic in Prince Edward Island, in our communities, and across Canada, thank you. The strength you provide during such difficult moments reflect the very best of the paramedic profession.
