Zoé Vallé Memorial Library We are an official branch of South Shore Public Libraries.

This historic sea captain's house, the former home of Zoé Vallé Lightfoot, has been a community library and civic centre since 1928 in beautiful Chester, Nova Scotia.

On this very day in 1928, 98 years ago, following the death of her older sister Zoe Vallé Lightfoot, Isabel Vallé Austen gave the Library building to the Municipality of Chester for it to be run as a library and community centre for the community of Chester. What a generous gift indeed!

All of locations will be closed this Friday in respect and remembrance of our longtime colleague, Jeff Mercer, on the day of his Celebration of Life.
