Join the Municipality of Chester, Tourism Nova Scotia, and tourism industry partners for a free Experience Development Workshop.

The workshop is an interactive, facilitator-led session that helps communities shape local stories, assets, and ideas into compelling visitor experiences.

Participants take part in guided activities, case studies, and small-group discussions to:
- Better understand who is visiting and what different visitors are looking for
- Explore how experiences can be tailored to meet the needs and expectations of those visitors
- Identify key moments that shape how an experience is remembered
- Strengthen storytelling, flow, and overall experience design
- Explore practical ways to enhance value and appeal within local capacity and seasonality

The workshop is practical and collaborative. Participants leave with clear next steps and experience concepts that can be further developed, tested, and supported through existing programs. Light refreshments provided.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
issued by the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board

A Notice of Public Hearing has been issued by the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board (NSRAB) to hear an appeal made by Marco Ferro and Lloyd's Landing Limited for a decision by the Municipality of Chester Council to refuse a development agreement application. The application was for 249 single-unit dwellings at East River Village (PIDs 60064078 and 60677168).

The Hearing will be held by the NSRAB on Tuesday, December 8 at 9:30 a.m. in Council Chambers located at 151 King Street in Chester. If necessary, the Hearing will continue on Wednesday, December 9. There will be an evening session on Tuesday, December 8 at 4:00 p.m.

This Hearing is open to the public, and residents can participate in these ways:

GOLD RIVER TRAIL BRIDGE UPDATE
October 21, 2026

We are getting closer! Final coat of paint was applied to the girders and sections of the bridge span are beginning to arrive. Once all of the sections are on site, they will be dropped into place by a crane. After testing, the bridge will be open for use!

An official opening is planned for the spring with all of the partners, but we're hoping some of you can join us in a couple of weeks for an informal "first one across the new bridge gets their face on the Municipality's page" event.

Happy Mi’kmaw History Month!

Waltes is a sacred traditional Mi’kmaq / L’nu game of chance. Games can last for hours and sometimes days. Waltes is played with six disc-shaped dice, traditionally carved from moose or deer bone, with one side rounded and the other flat, featuring a Mi’kmaw symbol engraved on the flat side, and 55 scoring sticks, a counter (a person who keeps track of the points), and blanket or fur, and humor. The dice are thrown into the air using the bowl. Points are earned depending on how the dice land.

Join the Municipality of Chester staff and Watson & Associates for an online discussion about the differences between a mayoral and warden system and outcomes of a potential change in electoral boundaries.

Sessions will be held on Tuesday, October 20 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. or Wednesday, October 21 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The format for these Phase One sessions will be a presentation followed by Q&A. If you cannot join us for either of these dates, recordings of the sessions will be posted and open for comment on our YouTube channel. All public feedback will be collected from these sessions, social media comments, and our engagement website and used for an interim report for Council's review. After that review, Phase Two public engagement will commence with additional in-person sessions.

Happy Mi’kmaw History Month.

Mijisi – translates to eat in Mi’kmaw. We invite you to roll up your sleeves and try Luskinikn, a traditional Mi’kmaq bread. Enjoy it anytime of the day, sweet or savory. This recipe was shared by the Front Street Oven and Sandy Fisher from the Glooscap First Nation.

Luskinikn (Luski) Bread Recipe

2 cups flour
2 Tbsp baking powder
2 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp oil
1 cup water (or 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water)

Preheat or fire up oven to 400°F. Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Mix the ingredients in a bowl.

For home oven, place the dough in the baking dish. Flatten to ensure it is evenly spread throughout the dish. For wood-fired oven, check the temperature of the floor in various places to see where the oven is closest to 400°F, then flatten the dough to 1.5-2 inches tall and place dough directly on the hot oven floor.

Bake for 20-25 mins, or until golden brown on top. In wood fired oven, check the bottom of the dough for burning and put it closer to the oven door or a cooler spot if it starts to burn.

Transfer to a serving plate and break apart by hand (cutting with a knife will make the hot luski gooey). Serve with honey, molasses, jam or golden syrup.
