Zoe Valle Library

Zoe Valle Library Founded in 1928 and named in honour of Zoe Valle Lightfoot, this charming community library is one of the last of its kind in Canada.

One of Canada's last remaining small community libraries and as independent as the visionary woman it is named for.

Dear friends and volunteers,

I want to reach out to you directly, with sincerity and respect, following Council’s decision this morning regarding the future operations of the Zoe Vallée Memorial Library.

This was not the outcome I had hoped for. I know many of you will feel disappointment, confusion, or concern. I feel those things too. You have given your time, your hands, your creativity, and your hearts to a space that matters deeply to this community. I want you to know that your work has not been lost. It has not been invisible. It has not been for nothing.

Every hour you volunteered, every flower bed you weeded, every flower you planted, every shelf you tended, every box of books moved , every ceiling and wall scraped and repaired and re-plastered, and prepped and painted . Every person Zoe welcomed, and every moment you helped bring the Library back to life has created a real and lasting impact. People felt safe here. They felt seen here. They felt connected here. That is because of you.

The Council’s decision does not diminish the beauty, generosity, and integrity of what you accomplished. The Zoe Vallée Library became a living, breathing space again this year because you showed up. The building, the gardens, and the community spirit were restored through your care. Nothing can take that away.

As we wait to learn more about what the transition period will look like, I want you to hear this from me clearly:
You made a difference. You changed lives. You restored something precious.

I am proud of the work we did together. I am honoured to have served alongside you. I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and in the vision we shared.

There will be time to reflect, time to gather, and time to understand what comes next. For today, I want each of you to know that your contributions were meaningful, valued, and felt by every person who crossed the Library’s threshold.

Thank you for your dedication, your kindness, your energy, and your belief in what this space could be. You brought it back to life. That truth stands, no matter what changes may come.

With respect and gratitude, and yours always in books and words. Kristina
