The one-of-a-kind finds, the owner who knows your order, the window you slow down for - you can’t recreate that in a checkout cart. And the math backs the heart: for every dollar spent at a local small business, about 66¢ stays in the community, versus just 11¢ at a multinational and 8¢ with online giants.

Most of us want our money to stay local - we just underestimate how much of a difference local shops actually make. So this week, choose the gem over the giant. Your community can feel it.

Small businesses make up 98% of all businesses in B.C. and employ over one million British Columbians. And here’s the part worth sitting with: if we each shifted just 10% of our spending toward local, independent businesses, it would create an estimated 14,150 new jobs and keep $4.3 billion circulating in the B.C. economy.

Supporting local isn’t a nice-to-have - it’s how our community keeps working. Literally.

When you choose a local restaurant over a chain, far more of your money stays right here - independent B.C. restaurants recirculate nearly 68% of their revenue back into the local economy, compared to about 30% for multinationals.

That’s your dollar paying a local server, stocking a local supplier, and sponsoring the team down the street. This Small Business Week, every meal out is a vote for the community you love.
