Staff pick! Laura recommends 'Exit Party' by Emily St. John Mandel:

"Two possible futures (that seem eerily plausible) intersect one night at a party when three people cross between realities. St. John Mandel is at the top of her game here with dexterous world building, and a fascinating morally gray main character."

Staff pick! Heather recommends 'Fruit Fly' by Josh Silver:

"For fans looking for a darker, gritty read-alike to R.F. Kuang's "Yellowface". This story bounces between two equally complex, and at times unlikable, narrators: an author stuck in a years-long writer's slump, who turns to appropriating a gay man's struggle to write her next hit - the other an addict who uses those around him as a means to get by. A twisty, fast-paced, conversation starter."

Staff pick! Joan recommends 'The Road to Goderich' by Linda McQuaig:

"This historical fiction novel follows Callandra, a young Scottish woman who agrees to marry a Presbyterian minister to save her family from poverty. They set off on a difficult journey to Upper Canada where the minister has accepted a position in Goderich. Tragic events, a careless lie, and the rebellions in Upper Canada complicate an already impossible situation, as Callandra tries to salvage a life for her and her child. "
