What an incredible day of learning, connection, and collaboration yesterday, Monday, May 11, in Stratford.

Victim Services Huron Perth was proud to host a sold-out Culturally Informed Approaches to Trauma & Violence training during Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2026. This year’s theme, The Power of Collaboration, came to life as community partners gathered to learn from one another, share experiences, and strengthen how we support those in our communities.

A huge thank you to Steve Didham from Phoenix Consulting & Counselling for leading such an engaging morning session, and to the speakers from the Huron Perth Children's Aid Society's Mino-Bimaadiziwin Circle for sharing their knowledge, perspectives, and lived experiences in the afternoon. You created space for meaningful conversations and important learning that will stay with us.

We also want to thank Black Angus Catering for the delicious lunch and all of the attendees who helped make the day so impactful.

This free training was made possible through the generous support of the Department of Justice Canada.

Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people.

Indigenous women in Canada experience the highest rates of violence and femicide.

On Red Dress Day, and every day, we honour the lives and legacies of MMIWG2S by listening to their stories and commemorating their strength and spirits. We stand in solidarity with the families and communities who continue in the pursuit of justice, healing, and change.

To raise awareness and pay tribute: wear red, read the Calls for Justice in the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (https://www.mmiwg-ffada.ca/), and support Indigenous led organizations such as Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA)

Why does Victim Services have volunteers?

Because in some of life’s hardest moments, people need more than a system—they need a person.

Our volunteers are trained, compassionate individuals who provide immediate emotional support, practical assistance, and connection to resources for those impacted by crime and tragedy. Whether it’s in the middle of the night or during a crisis, they show up to ensure no one has to face those moments alone.

They don’t replace professionals—they enhance the care, bringing empathy, presence, and humanity when it matters most.

Thank you to our volunteer team!

It’s Citizenship Week, a chance to celebrate our diversity, history and culture and the new Canadians who call our country home. We are excited to share a video of Siwi, a Huron County resident, who moved to Canada and found a sense of belonging by sharing her culture with our community.
