A new community playground is about to take shape in Coaldale, and volunteers are needed to help make it happen.

The playground build will take place at the former Kate Andrews High School, located at 2112 21st Street in Coaldale, in the northwest corner of the school grounds. While BDI will be providing site supervision, the installation itself will be completed by volunteers to help keep costs down. This will be a community playground built not only for the school but also for children and families throughout Coaldale to enjoy.

Volunteers are needed for four consecutive build days beginning Monday, June 22, 2026, with 25 volunteers required each day. At this time, 20 people are signed up for Monday, 19 for Tuesday, 9 for Wednesday, and 0 for Thursday. The greatest need right now is on Wednesday, June 24, although support is still needed on all four days.

No experience is necessary, just a willingness to help and be part of a project that will benefit our community for years to come. If you are able to lend a hand, please contact the John Davidson School at (403) 345-3161 so the school can provide BDI with updated volunteer numbers. If the required number of volunteers is not met, the build may have to be postponed, which would be disappointing for this long-awaited project.

This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and help build something meaningful for local children and families. If you can help, please consider signing up.
