Aside from swarm removals, we also offer Feral Swarm Removal
Each case of feral swarm removal from homes, trees and buildings is unique and must be assessed on a case by case basis. Bees are valuable pollinators and every effort should be made to relocate the colony, if possible, with destruction of the colony only applied as a last resort. That being said, many beekeepers are not interested
in the removal of feral honeybees. Removal is a complex and time consuming job with a low survival rate of the rescued colony, while in Ontario domestic colonies can be readily purchased. The Swarm Sisters provide this feral removal service because of their dedication to the bees and their desire to limit pesticide use in our environment. With a mutual interest in bees and sustainable living the Swarm Sisters were formed to market and supply honey and bee services to the general public of Northumberland County. This includes honey production, pollination services, feral swarm removal and educational programs in bee conservation, pollination gardening and beekeeping agriculture. With a keen interest and extensive research in swarms and trap outs, since 2016 our beekeeper Lesley has captured swarms, cut out a colony from a fallen tree, and live trapped from both trees and homes. Beekeeper Whitney has a BSc.honours from Trent with formal studies in the environment, education and bees. She has taught a 6 week beekeeping course through Trent University and manages over 50 hives. Together the Swarm Sisters present beekeeping workshops for new keepers, run an "open hive night", offer consultation services and continue to offer their educational services year round.
