🚧 Building Safer, More Reliable Roads Across Northumberland
Another construction season is coming to a close, with major infrastructure work completed or advanced across Northumberland County.
In 2026, the County:
• Improved major intersections
• Rehabilitated the Trent River Bridge
• Advanced the multi-year reconstruction of County Road 64
• Replaced the Salt Creek culvert
• Completed major road rehabilitation in Grafton
• Rehabilitated 4.3 km of County Road 30
• Delivered paving, microsurfacing, crack sealing and surface treatment across the County

Together, these projects represent approximately $11 million in infrastructure investment, supported through provincial funding, federal gas tax funding, County reserves and the municipal levy.

This investment helps maintain safe, reliable infrastructure and extends the life of the roads and bridges that connect our communities.

Thank you to the crews and contractors who worked to deliver these important projects and to residents, businesses and visitors for their patience and for driving safely through construction zones throughout the season.

🚧 Final paving is coming to Grafton tomorrow!
Last week, crews laid base asphalt for the Grafton Reconstruction Project. Tomorrow, we are back to lay the finished topcoat.
Expect delays and single-lane traffic while the work is underway. Please slow down, obey signs and give crews plenty of room to work.
We know construction can be frustrating, and we appreciate your patience.
Be sure to support local businesses along the way!

There’s a lot happening right now that’s outside our control. But we can take action by choosing where we spend our dollars. 🇨🇦

Choosing local helps support the businesses, workers and families that make Northumberland home.

When you shop, eat, and explore locally, you’re supporting local jobs, investing directly back into your community, and supporting Canadian businesses.

This is one small way we can make a difference, together.

Trent River Bridge Opening Early November

We know the closure of the Trent River Bridge has been an inconvenience for residents, businesses and anyone travelling through the area.

We have received a number of questions and inquiries this week about the schedule and we want to reassure residents that the Trent River Bridge rehabilitation project remains on budget and on track for opening the end of this month or potentially the first week of November. Work is progressing well and a confirmed date for the opening will be communicated next week.

This major rehabilitation project is focused on extending the service life of the bridge and maintaining safe, reliable access for years to come.

Thank you for your continued patience as we complete this important work.

Wait to Pass: Respect Slow-Moving Vehicles
Patience pays off. Only pass a slow-moving vehicle when you have a clear, legal opportunity - never on a hill, a curve, or without full visibility. The orange SMV sign is legally required on vehicles that can't exceed 40 km/h, letting you know to wait for your moment. Slow-moving vehicles are 5 to 8 times more likely to be involved in a fatal collision per kilometre travelled, and improper passing is a leading cause. Farming is at the heart of Northumberland, and waiting those extra seconds helps protect the families who grow our food. This harvest season, wait to pass.
