Aylesford Lake Beach is now home to a new accessible gazebo! This welcoming space will be fitted with an accessible picnic table. It is located near the lifeguard station and the mobi mats, which allow for easier entry to the water. We are excited for residents and visitors to enjoy this new space throughout the season.

There will be a Public Information Meeting on Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. in Municipal Council Chambers, 181 Coldbrook Village Park Drive in Coldbrook, regarding a planning application from Ian Doucet to rezone a property located at PID 55325609 (no civic), Lydiard Road in Centreville from the Residential One Unit (R1) Zone to the Residential Mixed Density (R3) Zone to permit a four-unit dwelling.

The intent of the meeting is to review the relevant planning policies, explain the proposal and receive early feedback from the public.

On June 2, Municipal Council of the Municipality of the County of Kings approved an application for a development agreement to convert an existing building into a one-unit dwelling at 1138 West Halls Harbour Road in Halls Harbour.

In accordance with Sections 247 and 249 of the Municipal Government Act, an aggrieved person, the Provincial Director of Planning, and an adjacent municipality or a village in which an affected property is situated may appeal Council’s decision to the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board within 14 days after the date of this publication.

Nova Scotia Power has scheduled two upcoming planned outages in Kings County. The outages are required to safely commission a transmission line serving Waterville, Berwick, and surrounding communities. This work is an important step in strengthening the resilience and reliability of the local electrical system.

To complete this work, two outages are required:
• Wednesday, June 3 – approximately 15 minutes, from 11:00 PM to 11:15 PM
• Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 7 – approximately 8.5 hours overnight, from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM

These interruptions will impact approximately 5,863 customers in the following communities:
Aylesford, Berwick, Black Rock, Burlington, Cambridge Station, Canada Creek, Chipman Brook, Coldbrook, Grafton, Harbourville, Lakeville, Morden, Morristown, Somerset, South Berwick, Victoria Harbour, Waterville, Woodville, and neighbouring areas.

As a part of Access Awareness Week, Municipal staff took part in training on digital accessibility to learn how to create more inclusive digital documents, presentations, and online communications.

Digital accessibility helps make sure that everyone, including people with disabilities, can access information and services independently and effectively. Through this training, staff gained practical skills in many topics, including plain language, accessible document design, alternative text, colour contrast and accessible presentations.
