Good news! Construction work has been completed, and users can once again access this section of the BX Creek Trail. Thank you for your patience during the closure.

Good news! Construction work has been completed, and users can once again access this section of the BX Creek Trail. Thank you for your patience during the closure.

Beginning August 7, a section of the BX Creek Trail will be closed while construction is completed on portion of trail that was previously washed out as a result of flooding.

While the closure signs have been posted for some time, construction is now beginning, and the trail will be fenced off for public safety while work is underway.

✅ A significant portion of the trail remains open and accessible.

Please obey all posted signs and barriers and avoid entering the closed construction area. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this work is completed.

British Columbia has ENDED the State of Provincial Emergency, effective August 27, due to wildfire.

BC has ENDED the State of Provincial Emergency, effective Aug. 27, due to wildfire.There is no impact to existing States of Local Emergency, Evacuation Orders or Evacuation Alerts.

While the State of Provincial Emergency is ending, wildfire season is not over.

The province will continue to respond to the wildfire situation and support impacted communities.

Residents and visitors in B.C. are urged to:
• Stay prepared and be ready for changing conditions.
• Follow the direction of local authorities, including any Evacuation Orders and Alerts.
• Check conditions before travelling and follow directions from officials.
Safety reminders:
• Check BC Wildfire Service, EmergencyInfoBC, and DriveBC before heading out.
• Follow any local Evacuation Orders/Alerts and directions from officials.

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition put in place by the BC Wildfire Service is rescinded in the Kamloops Fire Centre 👇

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in the Southeast, Cariboo, Coastal and Kamloops Fire Centres.

We recognize that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many. Restrictions are only considered when multiple factors indicate an elevated wildfire risk, heightened wildfire activity and limited capacity to respond to new fire starts.

With improving conditions in some regions of B.C., and cooler wetter weather in the forecast we are now able to rescind these prohibitions. We continue to monitor wildfire risk and prohibitions may be implemented or rescinded as conditions change.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by ORV users during this period. We know many riders take fire prevention seriously and recreate responsibly on established roads and trails. If you're returning to the backcountry, we ask for your support in reporting any new wildfires through our app or by calling *5555.

We are excited to share that the Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail keeps growing, now with a brand new section open between Grindrod and Enderby! 👇👇👇

🚴‍♂️🌲 As summer rolls on, the Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail keeps growing, now with a brand new section open between Grindrod and Enderby!

Hot on the heels of the Mara Lake–Grindrod ribbon cutting, this milestone means 40 km of continuous trail are now open from Sicamous (km 0.5) to just south of Enderby (km 40.5).

🚶‍♀️✨ Trail use is booming! The Sicamous Ferry Society recently set a record, ferrying over 800 trail users in a single day. Trail counters have logged 26,000+ users on the upper Sicamous–Mara Lake section and 24,000+ through Enderby so far in 2026. This progress is thanks to support from Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada’s Active Transportation Fund, which is also helping us complete the final stretch between Sicamous and Stepney X Road by year’s end.

Coming soon: a new access point at Stepney X Road and a final half-kilometre at the north end (opening after the Highway 1 Bruhn Bridge is complete in 2027). Plus, essential erosion mitigation work on the Mara Lake section will require a short closure in September—stay tuned for updates.

UPDATE: August 27 @ 8:35 a.m.

A cluster of very small spot fires remains in the northeast corner of the Mabel Lake area. This is a remote area, and the spot fires are not expected to see growth and are not threatening communities or structures.

Residents are advised that there has been increased lightening activity in the area, and to remain prepared should conditions change. If you see anything that looks like a fire, please report it to the BC Wildfire Service immediately by dialing *5555.

Huge thank you to the Cherryville FireWatch Society, local community, and the BC Wildfire Service for their dedication and quick response in protecting our communities.

The fire along River Road is now contained thanks to quick action by the BC Wildfire Service.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant as multiple lightening strikes occurred in the rural Lumby and Cherryville areas.

We are aware of the multiple new wildfires located in the Cherryville and rural Lumby areas. They have been reported to the BC Wildfire Service, who will take appropriate action. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
