Hi Everyone,

We blinked and now it's September. I hope you had a great summer and are gearing up for a return to Oasis for the fall. I look forward to welcoming everyone back.

We will still be in the Library for programming on September 3rd. On this day we will start with our day with Coffee & Chat at 10. At 11, we will do a member request of a recipe swap. If you have a favourite recipe you want to share, bring it along. If you need it printed, email it to me and I can print copies for sharing. For our board and card games at 1pm, I have had members request certain card games such as Bridge, Euchre, Crib and 45's. If you wish to create a foursome (or whatever "some" works) for these game send me an email and I can match you up.

On September 10th we are back in the Westphal Room . Morning is starting off with Tai Chi at 10, then at 11 we will have a presentation by Peter from Hear Right Canada, our first participant in our "Who are the People in your Neighbourhood" initiative. They will have a table set up to speak to folks as well. Then, at 1pm we will have a chance to reintroduce ourselves and reconnect. We have grown exponentially over the year and we would love to have folks come together and introduce themselves to folks they have not met before to make our group more cohesive and show how welcoming this community is.

On September 17th it is Oasis at CHP's First Birthday🎂 . We will start the day with a chair cardio workout that uses weights (if you wish) at 10am. Then at 11:30 we will have a celebration lunch followed by a Planning Meeting at 1pm where we can discuss what is coming up for the fall and I will ask for ideas for the coming months. Brittany will be on site for Navigation from 11 - 3 if you have any questions for her.

On September 24th there will be no programming as myself and the Spencer House team will be in Kingston for our annual Oasis Summit.

Today’s outing allowed us to learn about the Giles House and early farm life in Cole Harbour. We saw the critters in the barn including a 7 week old lamb and I was lucky enough to get an unexpected kiss from a sheep. Some folks had a chat with the Blacksmith who was working on a beautiful metal piece while others toured the garden. We followed the tour up with a tasty lunch at The Palladium. All in all an enjoyable day.

Hi Folks,

Here is the calendar for August. We have 2 "field trips" this month. The first is on August 6th at the Boardwalk at Fisherman's Cove in Eastern Passage. There is no set agenda, we can just meet up at 11 and shop, walk and eat as we feel like it. Alternatively, Barb Adams is holding her annual Seniors Tea at 11 am at Oceanview Manor if anyone felt like heading there before hand and then coming to roam the boardwalk in a herd.

August 13th we will attempt a group walk at 10 am, but there will also be coffee on in the program room if the weather is yet again uncooperative. We have a recorded webinar from the Arthritis Society at 11 am. This does require signup just so I can make sure we have enough space. Brittany will also be on hand if you have any questions for her. Just a reminder, she can also help with form filling for many of the provincial seniors grants. Then at 1pm Rowan will be back to provide another session of tech help. If you have any particular topics in mind let me know and I can send them along.

On the 20th we are doing a tour of the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm at 10 am and then meeting for lunch at the Palladium around 12:15ish. Because the tour may not be mobility friendly for everyone, there are 20 spots available for the tour and we have room for 28 for lunch. Again, this requires that you sign up. Oasis is covering the cost of the tour, but individuals will be responsible for their meal.

Finally, on August 27th we start off the day with a group walk and or coffee and chat at 10 am. Followed by a short National Film Board Documentary called Mabel about an extraordinary woman from Hubbards, who ran her own business until well into her 90's. After the film we will have a discussion about the film. The day will finish with our book club at 1pm. Book title is pending, should know in the next day or two.

Tech help from Rowan, the awesome technology intern at the Cole Harbour Public Library. We got a few lessons on cell phones and tablets and what many of the accessories and helpful apps we can find on them. Rowan is also available for one-on-one tech help at the library by appointment. Check it out if you are having some difficulties. We have Rowan booked again in August so suggestions are welcome for the next topic.

This week we went on our first "field trip" as a group. We started the morning off with a wonderful tour of the Black Cultural Centre and we followed it up with a lunch at Opus Cafe. Great food and conversations were had. We are back in the library this Thursday, but there are a few more outings scheduled this summer. Details coming soon.

Calling All Cole Harbour Businesses & Community Organizations!

As OASIS seniors program approaches its one-year anniversary in Cole Harbour Place, we're looking for local businesses and organizations that want to connect with older adults (over 215 current participants!) and help build a stronger, more connected community.

Beginning this September, we'll be launching a Community Connection Table at our weekly OASIS program. It's an opportunity to:
✅ Share information about your services
✅ Give a short presentation
✅ Display brochures and promotional materials
✅ Connect directly with local older adults

We're especially interested in businesses and organizations focused on health, wellness, financial services, recreation, home supports, technology, and community services—but we'd love to hear from anyone who wants to support healthy aging in Cole Harbour.

Send me a message here on Facebook or email [email protected] if you'd like to be involved.

I'll also be visiting local businesses over the next couple of weeks, so I may see you before you see me!

Know a business or organization that would be a great fit? Tag them in the comments or share this post!
